Advertising versus publicity.

Advertising is one of the most seen things in a public places, television, newspapers, internet, etc. There are different ways of advertising in Lithuania:

1. World-of-mouth – when people tell their friends about the benefits of products or services that they have purchased. This virtually advertising is probably the most effective non-paid advertising.

2. Some companies hire advertising agencies to create an advert of their product or service.

3. Counter-cyclical advertising – this from is used in a companies in case to avoid advertising wars with their competitors.

4. A build board (a poster on a boarding (U.K.)).

5. A newspaper advert.

6. A TV commercial, radio commercial, a cinema advert.

7. Sponsorship’s adverts, a sandwich board, etc.

Advertising always runs together with publicity. The main difference among them is that publicity is the most important element of public relations (PR) and is any mention of a company’s product that is not paid for, in any medium read viewed or heard by a company’s customers or potential customers, aimed at assisting sales. Publicity makes a big influence for companies, because it is treated to be more reliable and true information in a society. People trust publicity more than advertising. In Lithuania publicity is run by The Code of Ethics of Lithuanian Journalists and Publishers. Although it says that the main purpose of journalism is to state the true information, the journalists work and belong to their own companies, which compete between each other, and tries to represent the most attractive and impressive information for people eyes. But still it remains more trustful information comparing with advertising.
