Wraith

From Hyrule

Of all the secrets Alpha has kept concerning himself, his alternate identity as the assassin Wraith is perhaps his most guarded. While he himself has never revealed it to anyone since he arrived in Hyrule, a diverse number of evil-doers are aware of the connection, and have attempted to use it against the Sheikah on multiple occasions as a threat.

[edit] Origins

The identity of Wraith came into existence about seven years prior to the events of HA2, while Alpha was trying to find his way in the world after abandoning Master Zaris. The teenager was taken in by the criminal mastermind [Gorodo]], and given a job as an assassin. Using the skills he had gained through his training with Zaris, he soon became a legendary killer when he proceeded to flawlessly accomplish a mission that many veterans had deemed impossible. Alpha, still harboring fears that the Hakiems would find and begin hunting him once more, began referring to himself by a code name, "Wraith". When potential employers began heavily pursuing information on him and his real name, he also began going by "Yuenbri".

[edit] The Master

In time, Wraith's reputation became so well that even his superiors' superior, known in HA2 simply as The Master became interested in him. Wraith was unknowingly given a mission by The Master, but when he refused to do it he was brought before the being and judged. According to Gorodo, in order to save his own life Wraith he acted more pitiful than a Moblin, humbling himself in such a manner that The Master became amused with the spectacle and allowed him to live.

Very little has been revealed about the Master, but what has been said is quite ominous. The Master is apparently the one who gave the Sheikah his cursed scar, which would imply that he has some connection with Zaboorak and the Hakiems, as the Zora has been confirmed to have been present when Wraith was cursed. In addition, while Alpha is concerned about the truth of his being Wraith being made public, he seems much more frightened of the fact that such a revelation would undoubtedly connect him to The Master. This remains true even though The Master is confirmed to be dead.

[edit] Departure

About one year after donning the title of Wraith, Alpha was taken before the Master and given his cursed scar. One month later, Alpha was given a task similar to the one he had refused to earlier. In order to avoid having to take the lives of people whom he believed did not deserve death, Alpha once again took flight and disappeared from the criminal underground. The Master, enraged, sent thousands of his servants after the Sheikah, and yet none were ever successful in hunting him down.

[edit] Role in HA2

As with everything else in Alpha's past, his time as an assassin has recently begun to come back to haunt him.

[edit] Equipment

As an assassin, the personage of Wraith carries a diverse series of weapons and items that allow him to move with stealth and silence before taking out his target with a single unseen strike. At the same time, though, all assassins are equipped with items for battle, as every assassin is taught from the beginning to assume that a mission will fail. Therefore Wraith is also equipped so as to fight against overwhelming odds

[edit] The Staff Brenyuu

Wraith's primary weapon, it was designed as a conduit for electricity. This special staff has the ability to draw in all electrical attacks and render them powerless against Wraith. Furthermore, by using the Rohtric Carrse spell Alpha could empower it with the Lightning element by simply using the static electricity in the air around him.

[edit] Poisoned Needles

The primary tool of assassination in Wraith's arsenal, these special needles are about six inches long and slender as sewing needle, yet strong enough to pierce the skin and deliver the fatal poisons held inside the metal shaft. Something the threw off many of those investigating the aftermaths of his killings was that the poison actually should never have been enough to kill a man; it was either too little, or a poison which would not - or could not - result in death except in extreme circumstances.

It was General Richarn Noval who eventually realized that these needles, or rather the poison inside them, were being enchanted. Through magic, Wraith was able to cause the poison to flow through his victim's veins at unnatural speed, allowing it to tear through the target's immune system and defenses at an incredible rate. Unless the person in question already had an immunity to the type of poison being used on them, it was frankly impossible for their bodies to keep up with the speed of the poison and fight against it.

[edit] Other items

  • Electric Chain - used against Dogura in FoG IV, Alik employed the device in order to stop the telepath from focusing and breaking through his mental defenses. The spring-loaded chain was designed similarly to the Hookshot, except that once it latches onto something it delivers a powerful electric shock rather than retracting. It is unconfirmed whether this was actually a part of Alpha's arsenal while he was Wraith.
