An Inner Ridge System of the Terran Sphere, Essen is an oddity among any systems. Although home to 6 planets, all but one of them are gas giants. The remaining one, (Wulfram is a tiny snowball, barely worthy of planet status. The 45,000 colonists who lived there before the execution of massive terraforming projects in 2211 had to huddle under large dome settlements, as there was no atmosphere. The discovery of massive iridium deposits on Wulfram, vaulted the Essen system to top status within the Sphere, the House of Commons appropriating large amounts of capital to modernize and expand system defences as well as attract more settlers and large mining consortiums to the system.
