Elf(Species VC2)

From Hyfenwiki

Elves are a dominant sentient species throughout several timelines in Freikorps Canon. This article is specific in regards to the variety found in the Variant Cappa 2 Universe. However, the elven species of VC2 is generally accepted as the multiversal "norm" when it comes to the species, so many facts reported in this article in regards to appearance, lifespan, and physiology are accurate of most elven species throughout the Freikorps Multiverse.

Life Expectancy and Age

The average elven lifespan in VC2 is 200-300 years. From years 1-16, human and elves are essentially the same development and growth-wise, with a few exceptions. These exceptions include the acceleration of vertical growth, which humans often occurs slightly earlier in females. In elves, this rapid growth in height to the near final height of the individual usually begins about the same time for both sexes, at approximately age 10 or 11.

At age 16, elven bodies’ aging process slows dramatically, and nearly stops until about age 60. At age 60, the ratio of human age to elf age can be effectively stated to be approximately 1:3.3 . this means that to figure the comparable human age in terms of physical development/age, one simply divides an elf’s age by 3.3 . The result is then rounded to the tenths place, and that is your approximate age. Thus, a 60 year old elf is comparable to an 18 year old human in terms of physical development and apparent physical age. An 80 year old would be comparable to a 24 year old human, and a 300 year old elf (the farthest end of the common elven lifespan) would be comparable a human aged 91 years (the far end of the common human lifespan).

Physical Characteristics and Physiology

The most obvious difference between humans and elves is, of course, the pointed ears. Other generalized differences include elven features being sharper and more angular than humans, though this is by no means a definite statement for all individuals, and it is not uncommon for elves to have rounded features and humans sharp. Elves also tend to have fairer skin tones than humans, and in interesting contrast, darker hair colors are also more common in elves than humans. Elves on average, as compared to humans, are slightly taller, though the difference is slight. The average elf is approximately a single centimeter taller than the average human. Whether or not this statistic will change in the near future is unknown, as census trends show that both species seem to be getting gradually taller with each successive generation. It’s interesting to note that while slightly overweight elves do exist, there has never been a reported case of obvious fatness or obesity in all of elven history, and so on average, elves also tend to be leaner. Strong musculature is generally hidden and compact, lending again to the leaner figure, not pronounced and bulging as in humans. This may be partly due to the fact that elven metabolisms are, on average, quicker than human.

The biggest reason besides longer lifespan that elven population has been consistently lower than human, is the fact that elven couples can only conceive child every 10 years if they remain with the same partner. After conception, the male elf’s reproductive system effectively shuts down for approximately that amount of time. This does not mean that they cannot engage in procreative acts, but simply means they cannot father another child until that period of time has elapsed. The time varies per individual, but remains very close to the ten-year average, within weeks. Elven females, unlike their human counterparts, have a gestation period of approximately 360 days, and afterwards, their reproductive system also slows, though nowhere close to the time that males do, averaging about three or four months.

Allergies are exceedingly rare amongst all of the species in VC2, but it does seem that approximately 25% of all elves and elf hybrids suffer from an acute coffee allergy. Symptoms of the allergy may include itchiness, watering eyes, and acute irritability. Sever reactions are exceedingly rare, but believed by some to be specific to elf-hybrids.

Calender

The calender used by Butea, Takara, and Takaran territorial holdings is simply called the Elven Calender, and functions on a . Terran Baseline Year 2261 is equivalent to 3348 EY (Elven Years). Though other nations/species have their own calenders, the Elven Calender is often used for international needs, or where two other calenders are not so easily
