From Gwn

The Earth First Federation has lagged behind its military rivals. The Gemini Foundation siezes on this weakness, and offers its technology to create a foothold in the EFF defense network. This story features many influential people taking part of a special council of the mysterious political party that rules the EFF. Paul Greego remains the only true playable character mentioned in this story, though his role is slightly negative since he welcomes in Gemini. Joshua Noventa also makes a debut, though he comes from the after-USF saga that ended the original GWN board. This story occurs on 21 January, AC 257.

Story

A faint light passed through the window. The boardroom held several top officials, eagerly awaiting their audience. Clouds gathered around Luxembourg, provincial capital for the Earth First Federation. A former government built this building in honor of those who died in past wars. Now generals and politicians assembled there, interested in starting the next war.

A representative from a little-known corporation stood before the group. His company in the Outer Colonies dealt in arms. Outside weapons were normally not something the EFF contracted. This man represented an irresistible offer the war council, something that necessitated this meeting.

"Gentlemen, thank you for meeting me here. I represent the Gemini Foundation. We are a new company forging ahead and developing the best in military technology and genetic advancements.”

“This,” A display illuminated the room. “Is what we’re offering. Brand-new technology designed by Gemini to facilitate peace. We have developed this technology through our own labs, and now offer you an exclusive contract to develop these weapons for you. Our technology is not only hardware, but software and genetic designs. Our bioengineering division is hard at work developing gene therapy for...”

Andrew Garner, an up-and-coming politician, listened to the presentation. The EFF-Partisan shuffled his papers, looking at the estimates provided. The EFF suffered in the technological race between itself and the Martian and Jovian colonies. This ‘foundation’ seemed to be a godsend, but instead the partisan worried about this seeming gift horse.

Garner waited for a pause, and finally spoke out.“Excuse me, but why are you offering us an exclusive project? And where are you getting your funding from? There is nothing about this in the briefing, only technical schematics and... molecular reports of human DNA. This is all interesting, but why are you coming to us?”

“Ah, well. A prudent question. This technology is a gift, but we do necessitate certain concessions from the Earth. Our labs require a high amount of organic material which take too long to grow in artificial conditions. Right now your military programs are lagging behind both the ICS and Martian programs. They have smaller populations, but they are spurred by survival to excel. They’ve excelled past your own programs, and even now are developing Newtype weaponry.” The representative replied.

“Newtype weaponry?” Paul Greego, son and heir apparent of the EFF’s current chairman and General of the Armies, responded.

“Ah yes, most people call them ‘psychics’. Our chairman prefers the term ‘newtype’ for those who have broken through our evolutionary constraints.” The representative smiled after finishing. His dark hair and eyes contrasted against his light skin, which reflected the display’s light. He changed screens to a genetic model, with several sections highlighted.

Garner looked over to his right. A colonel shuffled through his papers, noting what the representative said. His name tag read ‘Noventa’, heir to a famous warrior lineage. He spoke out about the genetic factor, “So these Newtypes, why are they so different? I know that there experiments conducted by Mars a few years ago, though I never knew they were a viable military threat.”

“In AC 247, a Martian company named Zea-corp developed a psychic research program. While the Confederation deemed the project illegal after the fact, it benefitted from the program’s research. 25 years before that, the EFF engaged in active research of psychics, though not as extreme as Tynacorp’s experiments, do not act innocent. I know you all know about Newtypes, and the genetic gifts in their DNA. The Earth’s population still retains potential for further development... with our help.” The representative responded.

“So,” Greego interjected, “You want to sell us weapons and mess with our citizen’s genetics. My father is very interested in defending Earth’s sovereignty and unifying all people under one banner. Our banner. If the committee has no objections, I vote for full approval to authorize a full contract with the Gemini foundation.”

Noventa raised his hand with approval, “I second the motion. Are there any who disapprove?”

Garner looked at the man before them. His build seemed foreign, his mannerisms alien. He knew that colonists behaved differently because of genetic adaptations to low gravity and sunlight, but even then this man seemed just out of this world. Still, he had no concrete reason to oppose the deal. Weapons in exchange for organic materials truly was a gift from God. He remained silent, and the vote became unanimous.

“Thank you, gentlemen. We will make our first shipment of armor and frame designs upon receipt of these materials.”

Paul Greego stood up, walking to the representative. “Thank you. We look forward to a bright future mister..?”

Castor Imperious.” The representative responded, “You may call me Castor Imperious. Expect shipment within a year time, Colonel Greego. I hope one day to meet with your father, I know our chairman does.”
