Named After: | Named after the Greek Gods of Terran Culture |
Coordinates: | 20 W,100 S,151 L |
Astral Bodies: | The following are astral bodies in the OMi System |
-
Main Star
- Apollo (OMi-0) - Much like the Sun.
Inner System
- Asteroids and other debris - An outer ring like the Oort Cloud, although it's contents aren't even a quarter of the Oort Cloud.
- Iris (OMi-1) - The first planet of Olympus Minor, and naturally the closest to it's sun Apollo. Much like Mercury, this planet has a very quick year, and is exposed to enormous temperature extremes. Thus, it is nearly impossible to even attempt to inhabit. A notable fact about Iris is that it's orbit is slightly unstable, and it is believed that within two million years it will plunge into Helios.
- Dionysus (OMi-2) - The second planet in the Olympus Minor system. It is a planet of sub-tropical to temperate climate, and it's polar ice caps are very small. The planet's oceans are vast, but seem ineffectual when compared to the landmasses, as the bulk of all dry land is on a single continent lying just south of the planet's equator. The continent is covered with trees, although there is an interior desert spanning nearly a thousand miles in diameter. The planet is sparse as far as refinable ores go, although a meteor impact off the northern coast has left large pockets of it, partially submerged, as far as five hundred miles from it's center. The planet's atmosphere is breathable indefinitely. Plant life is lush, and animal life consists mainly of large insects and small mammals. A notable species of lizard similar to the now extinct Komodo Dragon lives on the outskirts of the inner desert. A small tide is caused on this planet by a ring of debris caused from an ancient meteor collision, and one of the chunks is nearly a fifth of the size of the Earth's Moon.
- Bacchus (OMi-3) - The third planet in the Olympus Minor system. A planet whose surface is 99% covered by water. Due to the volume of water, salinity and mineral content of the ocean is of a very low concentration. The planet-wide ocean is shallow in many areas, and it has underwater 'continents' in which the depth is only a few meters to several kilometers. The planet itself is a small distance further from it's star than Earth. The climate is tropical do to constant volcanic activity above and below the water which releases greenhouse gasses. Rings of valuable ore can be found around certain submerged volcanoes. The atmosphere is breathable, although you will drown within fifteen minutes due to the low levels of oxygen. Animal life consists almost solely of marine species, although there are small rodents on the many islands of Bacchus. There is also an interesting species of bird that spends it's entire life in the air. It is interesting to note that the ocean has no tide, it is circulated and stirred by the constant eruption of it's volcanoes.
- Circe (OMi-4) - The fourth planet of the Olympus Minor system. So named due to it's utterly poisonous atmosphere. Much like the Olympus Major's Venus, this small planet is deadly, although in a different way; Circe is choked with a thick cloud of virulent spores. The only life on the small rock of Circe is a kind of virus. Unlike the Grecian legend though, this virus will not turn you into a pig. It's effects are known only by the almost instantaneous death of a primate who was exposed to the virus. The irony is that the planet is rich with valuable metals. Circe has a small moon resembling Phobos or Deimos.
Outer System
- Erinyes (OMi-5)- The fifth planet and one of two gas giants in the Olympus Minor system. The only remarkable thing about this planet is it's breathable, albeit thick, atmosphere. It has four moons, and several minor satellites.
- Hestia (OMi-6) - The final planet in Olympus Minor. It is the largest by far, and is a borderline Brown Dwarf. It's internal temperatures are very near to that of the Sun. Hestia has fourteen moons and a large, gorgeous ring of red and white circling it's equator.
