The matriarch of the family, Anna is heavy-handed, yet loving. Head of McGregor Department Stores for twelve years now, Anna is still trying to put the pieces back together after her world was shattered after a drunk driver caused an accident that killed her husband. She pays careful attention to every aspect of the corporation, with the help of her son, Joseph. Anna spent years working with her husband, while at same time being a full time mother to all of their children. Being a corporate mogul doesn’t keep her from being a simple, down to earth person. Whenever anyone in her family has a problem, it’s generally solved over a piece of her cherry pie and a few words of wisdom from her. Anna never approved of her son Joseph’s marriage to Jacqueline and David’s daughter, Trish. The marriage produced a child, JC, but the two are now divorced. Anna is very protective of her grandson, which at times puts her on a collision course with Jacqueline.
She’ll be faced with challenges from not only her arch nemesis, Jacqueline but, her daughter, Yvette, who doesn’t always see eye to eye with her over how the corporation should be run. One of those challenges will be the revelation that her husband was married to another woman before her and had a son, something that could cause a power struggle for the company. Even through adversity, she remains strong for her family and to uphold the legacy of McGregor Department Stores, as well as build a legacy of her own. Anna grew up on a farm in North Carolina, raised in a home of modest means. Her parents instilled her with strong traditional values and she has always strongly relied on her faith . When her mother died and her father remarried, she moved north attend college. That’s when she met Andrew, who was an accounting major. After a brief courtship, they married and settled in Novi, Michigan. By the time their first son, Joseph was born, they had already opened a small clothing shop, drawing a handsome amount of profit. Although satisfied with the shop, Andrew and Anna strove for more and begin planning a department store. Andrew and Anna are turned down for loan after loan, before they find a bank willing to take a risk on their business plan. When an ailing department store is forced to close its doors, Andrew convinces the owners to sell him the building and so begins McGregor Department Stores. Within ten years, Anna and Andrew have opened five more stores and made their mark on the retail community. Despite the wealth and prestige, Anna has remained modest and has never forgotten her upbringing.
