Courtney A Bates
I first attended the Graduate Student Summer Workshop in 2005, and was pleased to be selected as a co-instructor in 2006.
I live a double life in the English Department, where I'm a fourth-year graduate student focusing on 19th century American literature. My field two field papers so far, however, linger at the far ends of my time-line. The first paper was on the fan letters of Willa Cather, "Fans Write Back: Reading the Readers of Willa Cather," which I presented at the Graduate Colloquium in the Fall of 2006. My current paper is on 18th century seduction novels. I also enjoy attending Major Field Workshop in my department.
My field committee includes: Dan Shea, Sarah Rivett, and is headed by Rafia Zafar.
In Fall 2006 I presented a paper on Willa Cather at the Graduate Student Colloquium in the English Department.
