Patron Saints/Velure

From Greenthings

V'Neef Velure... Ah, such a woman. Velure was the sparkling ornament of the Spiral Academy. A quick wit, a quirky sense of humor, and a radiant perfume of sweet peppermint stacked inside a beautiful exterior made her the object of desire. Though she was always quick to take advantage of her good looks, Velure always considered herself a "good girl." She would tease and tease, but she saved herself for those that she felt she truly loved.

Velure graduated near the top of her class from the academy to several job offers in the Thousand Scales and in private merchant houses, as well as a calling from her family to administer their agricultural development on the Blessed Isle itself. V'Neef (Head of House) herself ultimately felt it best for her daughter to take up a position in the Scales itself, though, as the contacts and experience would be invaluable for her fledgling family.

V'Neef quickly discovered a love and talent for sailing as a harbormistress on the southern coast of the Isle. She took every advantage she could to take her private yacht out and about, and never grew tired of the open ocean. She would, of course, drag herself back to the harbor every evening to administer to her duties. This selfless service actually resulted in a lucky coincidence for House Mnemon.

One dark evening, V'Neef was headed back in before the harbor nets closed the port. Rushing right before them, though, was a tiny skiff rowed by four with its mast collapsed and sail down. V'Neef thought this was quite odd, as they were tacking with the wind, then noticed that there was no tax collector on the docks to see them off.

V'Neef hauled her sail 'round leeward and started sailing perpendicular their path. When the probable thieves spotted her, the raised their sail to try to outrace her. They hadn't anticipated her skill with measuring the wind, nor her house's trademark (literally) firewands.

It was all over in about ten minutes. Velure's brown hair, lightly sparsed with jasmine blossoms, looked deathly black sparkled stars in the dimming twilight. Her red jade-stocked firewand with V'Neef leaf patterns and gold plating served her well, along with her long training back at the family home. The thieves' rudder and sails went up in flames quickly, and the sailors decided to take their luck in the water rather than at mistress Velure's hands.

Velure stuck by the boat, and it's a good thing, too. She quickly put out the fire and searched the cargo, only to find that they had made off with three priceless artifacts, all of Mnemon artifice. Velure didn't tell anyone else about them (she returned them personally, of course), and has earned Mnemon's favor. V'Neef herself knows that her daughter has done their house a great service, but even she doesn't know the exact details.
