Feathers of Gold/High First Age

From Greenthings

Eventually and after more property damage than would ever again be possible, the Primordials were slain or bound respectively, though not exactly without consequence as one might expect. The First Age of Man dawned. The Sidereal Exalted were made the Wardens of Heaven according to their strengths, the Lunars the Wardens of Earth according to theirs, and the Solars, being stronger than the rest, were made the Lawgivers, those who would rule over the whole, and for that matter anything else they could get their hands on.

This worked out for a while. There was prosperity and heroism and flying cars with laser guns, and the Incarnae looked down and saw that it was awesome, then went back to the giant LAN party in the sky they were using to keep the Ebon Dragon and the Shinmae occupied and less likely to plot horrible horrible revenge or at least successful h. h. revenge. Also there were other reasons, but I'm not telling.

Sadly, as with every piece of betaware, there were design issues. Since the human body could only withstand a pitiful amount of Essence, they had to write in that little hack that let them draw on some part of what was in the environment around them. Aside from the calibration issues this caused with the Loom, it also did real funny things to the human psyche to have your soul suddenly absorb the internal spiritual workings of, say, that rock over there, or the blood of your enemies or something. Exalts are pretty goddamn sturdy and all, but how sturdy tends to vary, and the whole curse-of-the-dying-ubergods thing didn't help much.

And so eventually, the thing which Jupiter had foreseen- or at least the other Incarnae presume it is, it's not like she's saying- came to pass.
