Llyr

From Greatelementrpg

Name: Llyr
Sex: Male
Age: 17
Race: Human
Nationality: Nephtys' Isles
Played By: Paradox
Appearance: Llyr stands just under 6 feet tall, with lightly tanned skin and a light agile frame with well toned body. He has medium length black hair, and black eyes. Llyr is actually a pretty good looking guy; however, he has no presence. Most people simply don’t notice him, even when he’s standing nearby. Even when they do see him, people often forget about him afterwards. This has proved to be a valuable trait for him, but also a source of great frustration. He blames it partly on the Raven Rune that was put into his hand by the Night Rune, but the Night Rune says it must be his own personality, since the Raven Rune only has physical effects. He wears a chlamys of Nephtys fashion; however, his is dyed black, which is uncommon. Though quite common in the Netherose Sea, the revealing nature of the chlamys often causes alarm in commoners that somehow manage to break through the veil of obscurity that surrounds him.

Background:
Llyr grew up in the care of the Elder Priestess Agnes on Aoros Island in the Netherose Sea. On the small island of Aoros, there is no such thing as an orphanage. His appearance itself was rather on; on the day of the Festival to the Wind, he was left during the night on the Altar to the Wind, amongst the other offerings of fruit and cheese. He wasn’t exactly a baby at this time; he was clearly at least a year old. He was found crying, and clutching a sword wrapped in a linen cloth. He also bore not one, but two runes – one on his forehead and one on his left hand, which was highly unusual for a boy so young.

Since there was nothing else to do with the child, he was taken in by the Priestesses, despite the fact that the Temple was not supposed to have men within it. In truth, he was a novelty to the Priestesses, who coddled him as he grew up. However, due to his ephemeral nature, they often forgot about him; except for Priestess Agnes. She in particular was fond of Llyr, but also very strict with him; she taught him to be well mannered and kind, and hard-working. He grew up performing chores for the Temple, such as cleaning the kitchen, the floors, and carrying water from the well. Except for the Priestesses, he only had human contact during the festivals, in which the citizens of the town were allowed into the outer circle of the temple to celebrate the New Year.

He lived like this for many years. However, once the Priestesses saw that he was entering puberty, they knew they had to make the painful move of making the child leave the Temple. He was told the Priestesses had made arrangements so that he could live with an elderly woman in the village that had agreed to take him in.

So at the age of 12, he left the temple for the first time since his entry. The elderly woman was kind enough, but she never actually looked after Llyr. He simply used her house and possessions to look after himself.

During the second night at this house, is when his life changed – it was the first time the sword spoke. As he was falling asleep in bed, he heard a loud yawn from a deep voice. He looked around and saw no one. Then the sword spoke; “Get me out from amongst your dirty sheets will you, they’re not exactly fresh … they say you can go blind from doing that too much young man …”

Over the next few years, Llyr slowly adjusted to life in civilization with the help of the Night Rune. ‘Slowly’ meaning ‘not really’. Having a talking sword introduce you to normalcy doesn’t exactly work. He managed to have limited interactions with other people his age in the village, but he’s still quite naïve to the way the world works in general.

When he turned 16 the elderly woman died. He was told since she had no living relatives, he would inherit her possessions. Llyr was happy to just continue living here, but the Sword told him he was meant for something else.

After a few months, he sold all his possessions and bought a ticket for the mainland; where he has wanderer according to the Sword's whims since.

Personality:
Llyr acts quite oddly, but considering his life, you can’t blame him. He’s very empathetic and always worries about people’s feelings, even total stranger; he can come off as rather odd because of this. He’s also a very touchy person; he often gives out and enjoys receiving physical affection – mostly because when he’s physically touching someone they’re not likely to forget that he’s there. Having experienced it several times in his life, he’s paranoid about people forgetting him and abandoning him. As such, he’s very clingy with those he cares about.

Due to his upbringing, he’s rather naïve about most things. He always thinks the best of everyone and everything, and is unaware of the suffering that occurs in life. Because of this, he’s easily manipulated on his own. However, he always has the Night Rune with him, which often tells him when he’s being used.

Llyr is not easily surprised, scared, annoyed, or angered. He finds most things amusing, and has more patience than normal people even for the most grueling tasks. He becomes easily upset however, especially when he thinks he’s displeased or wronged other people..

Wielded Weapons:
Llyr carries The Zodiac Sword – the embodiment of the Night Rune itself. It appears as a long black blade, with design that resembles a face on the hilt. It’s a powerful sword that has power over the Fallen. Also, it talks.

The Night Rune has a rather sarcastic personality, and can be rather annoying. It’s also rather loud, and has a nasty sense of humor. It does seem to want to keep Llyr out of harms way however.

Runes:
Left Hand – Raven Rune
Right Hand – Resurrection Rune
Forehead – Star Rune

Despite having these magic runes attached to him, and actually knowing quite a bit about runes and rune casting theory, he doesn’t know how to use the runes he holds to consciously cast spells. All magic he does is entirely on accident.
