History
The Keyroleth Empire was first formed around Solis 800, when the empire's founder, Nagean, rebelled against the Gramm Empire, leading to its downfall.
For around 400 years, the Keyroleth was the most prosperous region in the world, enjoying great wealth and peace.
This all ended in Solis 1212, when the Chaldean Theocracy was formed; the Chaldean Theocracy could not hope to match Keyroleth's military might, so it used the power of the Sun Rune to obliterate the Keyroleth Army, as well as most of Keyroleth itself. Indeed, what used to be lush and fertile plains which provided Keyroleth with its prosperity became harsh and unforgiving barren lands that sustain no life.
Since then, the Keyroleth Empire has managed to cling to its existance, but it is no longer the paradise it once was.
Culture
Keyroleth has two different cultures present, of two peoples who both call themselves Keyrolethan. Both share a common ancestry, and it could be said that the vast differences in situations are the cause for their differences. Both of these people of Keyroleth have smooth, dark tanned skin and dark hair. Most of their clothing is made of silk, because sheep for wool and cotton are not able to be cultivated. They tend to have large eyes and sharp noses.
The people that live around Mt. Karn in the southern penninsula are much more relaxed and friendly, as well as open minded. They share many traits with the people of Regintine; they simply want to get through the work day and make a living, and are willing to turn a blind eye to most things. Crime is not tolerated like it is in Regitine though, and harsh punishments are often the consequence.
The people that live in the barrens and around the Keyrlicoiin River are much more conservative. For them, every day is a matter of life and death. Everyone is expected to try their hardest to fulfill their role in society to that life may go on, and anyone that wants to step out of their role is viewed with shame and as selfish. For this reason, homosexuality is not very well tolerated. These people also tend to be much more xenophobic than those in the penninsula. They don't often engage in trade with people outside of Keyroleth. When times get rough, they've also been known to resort to banditry, terrorizing caravans attempting to cross the barrens.
The people of Keyroleth, having for a long time before their founding members of the Gramm Empire, speak Commonspeak as their main language.
Geography
Central Keyroleth was once a lush fertile land, full of promise and prosperity. However, the power of the True Sun Rune turned most of Keyroleth into an inhospitable barren land. Indeed, all the land in Keyroleth except that along the sides of the Keyrlicoin River and the southern peninsula is nothing but wastelands. The Teremos Mountains, once known for their beauty, simply look like parched peaks of despair that encircle Keyroleth.
The southern penninsula is where most of the Keyroleth Empire lies in modern times, in a way. The country's capitol, Mt. Karn is located on the penninsula, and is by far the Empire's largest city. Other towns that managed to survive because of the Keyrlicoin River have managed to subsist, but with great hardship.
Cities
1) Mt. Karn - Mt. Karn is a vast city, on top of a steep and lonely plateau. It has three distinct social classes; the Nobility, which have gorgeous Palaces in the city's inner circle, the middle class which consists mainly of merchants and traders, and the working class which consists of displaced farmers and those performing menial labor to scrape a living.
2) Ashan - The City of Ashan is the second largest town in Keyroleth, though it is not much compared to Mt. Karn. It is a bleak city indeed, mosty a collection of merchants that provide services for the farmers in the area, which try to use the Keyrlicoin River to make a living as best they can.
3) - Tamanan - The Haunted City of Tamanan. A place avoided at all costs. This was once a great fortress, back in the time when the plains of Keyroleth were fertile and dotted with prosperous farming cities. It's not sure what happened, but Tamanan was taken over by vile and cruel monsters known simply as the Desert Ones. At first glance, they appear to be humans wearing ragged silk cloaks. On closer inspection, they are seen to have scaly skin, sharp claw, and also haunting cries to testify to their monstrosity. They use Tamanan as their stronghold, and hold humans here as slaves. The tortured cries of their prisoners can be heard at all times. Tales tell that the fate of those captured is that of torture, rape, and servitude. The desert ones take their slaves by capturing travelers in the barrens. The monsters are incredibly powerful and agile, as well as having quite deadly powers over fire.
4) Keyroleth - This small village by the Keyrlicoin River was once one of the largest and most prosperous cities in the continent. The sandy ruins of such times still rise above the landscape. A few people still remain here, making use of the Keyrlicoin River to make a meager living as farmers. Bandits have been known to use this village as a place to rest, freely mixing in with the few villagers.
Government
Keyroleth has an Emperor; currently, Emperor Ashim Keyroleth, a boy of 2 years old. His mother, Empress-Mother Lalena Keyroleth is the acting ruler of the state. In truth however, the role of Emperor has passed to be largely ceremonial, as everyday affairs are made by the cities three guilds; the Merchants, the Farmers, and the Military. The Emperor does have a few power however, such as acting diplomat as well as being able to declare War.
Sub-Cultures Present
Keyroleth has many Nekobolds, especially in the southern penninsula. The Bandits that roam the Barrens have also made their own cultural impact.
The Haunted City of Tamanan is also known world wide.
