Appearance: Gwilliam has black hair and dark eyes, and a gentle looking face, though his expression is usually quite serious. He stands at a pretty average height. He’s in excellent physical shape, due to his occupation.

As for clothes, he wars a scarf like most Audverans do. He usually wears the simple tunic of his mercenary group, and a white cloak. Overall, he looks pretty boring – the only thing that makes him stand out is the scythe that he carries with him – and this indeed does attract much attention.

Background: Gwilliam had a rough childhood. His parents were very poor Audveran wheat farmers who were barely able to get enough food to eat during the spring, much less the winter. Their small hut was barely able to keep the cold out, but they usually managed. However, during one particularly prolonged blizzard when he was ten, they ran out of firewood. His father tried to brave the storm to bring back more, but he never returned. His older brother Giles went out next, and like his father, never returned. His mother and two sisters died of cold the following night. Gwilliam almost died himself, but by some miracle, did not. He woke up with a warm blanket around him, and his home’s hearth was full of warmth. He saw the bodies of his mother and sister neatly layed out. His older brother was next to him, barely breathing. He had somehow managed to acquire firewood, and return.

He went out to the nearby Talpaea Castle to look for help. It was two miles away, but he managed to run it quickly. The first people he saw were a mercenary group leaving the castle with a caravan. He begged for help. Though the caravan owner was displeased at the interruption, the mercenary group rushed to the boy’s house. They picked up his brother, and brought him back. They offered to keep both of the boys with them for the time being.

This time being never really stopped, and both boys joined the mercenaries. They mostly escorted caravans between Rugney and Audvera, having to fight off the monsters in the Hiam Forest.

For many years they lived like this. Giles and Gwilliam both became capable fighters and valued members of the mercenaries over time. Giles was very capable with a sword, but Gwilliam preferred to use a scythe, like the one their father had used to cultivate wheat.

Giles and Gwilliam eventually left the mercenaries to work as bodyguards for a noble boy from Rivercrest. The boy’s noticed asked the mercenary company if she could perhaps hire a couple of bodyguards for her son, who was about to travel the world. The mercenary group usually didn’t split up; however, they thought of the two youths, who were not well traveled. Giles and Gwilliam, after many goodbyes, left the mercenary group to guard Alder Rivercrest.

Personality: Gwilliam is much more cheerful than his brother, though that’s not saying much. He’s open minded and voices his opinion sincerely and honestly whenever asked to, but generally keeps his mouth shut. Gwilliam is definitely acquainted with the hardships of the world, and has a very realistic attitude, much like his employer. Gwilliam can be rather more silly however, and often isn’t as mature. He tends to view things in very black-and-white terms, often on the scale of ‘justice’. He’s also prone to violence in disputes, which isn’t uncommon for a mercenary.

Wielded Weapons: Wheat Scythe – Gwilliam wields a common scythe as a weapon, and quite effectively too. He strikes fast and furiously, without mercy.

Runes: Gwilliam is lucky enough to posses two rather rare runes. On his forehead, he wears a rare Killer Rune, which makes him vicious during battles, but drains him afterwards. On his right hand, he wears the even rarer Godspeed Rune. He acquired this rune after killing a very hostile elf in Hiam Forest. It simply attached itself to his hand as he touched the elf’s dead body.
