Christopher Praesul

From Greatelementrpg

Name: Father Christopher Praesul (He really prefers Chris or Christopher, titles bother him)
Sex: Male.
Age: Nineteen.
Race: Human.
Nationality: Rugnean.
Played by: Cheesey~

Appearance: Christopher is of tall, lean stature, standing at just about six feet tall, though not quite reaching it. Despite his height, he's rather underweight, as he's nearly skin-and-bones. He doesn't get too much exercise, and he doesn't eat a whole lot either, but he manages to not look starved, thankfully. His facial features are soft, with medium-high cheekbones and a defined chin. His eyes give the appearance of being half-closed, and his mouth seems constantly eased into a lazy smirk. Even when someone's right there speaking to him, it seems like he's off in some other world. He wears Rugnean bishop's garb, thanks to his high rank, though it's usually wrinkled from whatever wandering around he's been doing. The long, gown-like thing just doesn't suit him, as it's far too baggy for his build and distinct lack of broad shoulders, and looks hilariously wrong on him. Coupled with very light blond hair that never seems to stay combed and pale skin, and you have the picture of Christopher. If you must have a more accurate mental picture, he resembles Fye D. Flowright from the anime Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE.

Background: Christopher was born a Rugnean peasant, and thus with no surname. Since peasants are generally well-treated and happy in Rugney, he lived a happy childhood, though with his absentminded and, to be frank, spacey nature, he sustained many skinned knees and other various injuries from his carelessness. His father, when Christopher was only eleven years old, left to travel the world in search of fame and fortune not normally available to one of his status, and within only a few months of his father's leaving, by some stroke of horrible luck, his mother fell ill, and despite both Christopher and his older sister, Harriet, attempting to nurse her back to health, passed away one summer night. Now living on whatever money his parents had stored away, Christopher and Harriet were becoming desperate. Since women cannot work in Rugney, even though Harriet was of working age, Christopher had to search around town for odd jobs to do, and not being the most fit of children, he couldn't manage most of them.

And just when things seemed like they couldn't possibly get any worse, when the siblings were nearly out of money, Harriet fell ill with something that showed the same symptoms as the illness that took the pair's mother. As much as poor Christopher, only twelve years old, wanted to curl up in a corner and die, he somehow convinced himself he needed to continue working, and perhaps something good would happen. Perhaps because the fates had been so cruel to him before, someone up there decided to bless the boy with a piece of such amazing luck that he could have never dreamed of in a million years. On a trip to the capital city's sewer system to find a lost pet, he tripped, as is characteristic of him, and fell rather ceremoniously into some kind of underground shrine. Thoroughly confused and disoriented by now, he, of course, walked forward to the altar in the front, inspecting around it to find a way out. Touching mysterious altars is not always a good idea, as Christopher soon found out, and he woke up what seemed like hours later. He didn't notice(how could he?), but the rune that was residing in said altar on the outskirts of Rugney was none other than the Bright Shield rune, made famous by the conflict years and years ago. And this rune was now inside of him, though not necessarily active.

Thus, after climbing out of the curiously-placed pitfall in the ground, the boy completed his job, collected the meager pay, and made his way back home, sitting next to his unconscious sister and quietly sobbing, as he did every day. He only wished she would get better and talk to him again, so he wouldn't have to be alone. But tonight would be a bit different. The immediate area darkened to an even darker black than the night normally allowed, and what appeared to be a runic shield appeared on the boy's right hand, and blindingly bright lights erupted from it, showering over Harriet's sleeping form. After the spectacle, a rather stunned (for good reason) Christopher checked on his sister. Amazingly, her ragged breathing had returned to normal, and the look of pain that had taken over her face lately was gone, replaced with a more peaceful look. However, no matter how hard he tried, she would not wake up.

Not that he had much time. A passing priest had noticed the light (who DIDN'T, it was REALLY bright) and hurried into the house, recognizing the light as much more powerful than anything from a normal magic rune. When he saw the young boy, rune engraved onto his right hand, sobbing from surprise and joy next to the sleeping girl, he immediately recognized the rune from a text he had read on Nagean and Arceid, and brought both to the capital's temple.

Today, seven years later, Christopher is a bishop of the temple, one of the highest ranks, seeing as Rugney religion is based around true runes and he owns one of them. Just this last year he finished his priesthood training, though he doesn't make the best priest, but this will be covered more in the next field. Harriet still sleeps to this day, and Christopher visits her every day without fail, having made it his life's goal to find some way to wake her up. No matter how much other priests have tried, she would not wake up, even to Christopher's power. He was given the surname "Praesul", meaning protector, by the church.

Personality: Christopher is, as I already said, quite a space cadet. He always seems to be wandering around in a dream, and he can not notice some of the most obvious things, as he'll be off thinking about something entirely different. The rune has had an effect on his personality as well, he's very much a free spirit, not caring much for confining rules and titles, preferring to just be himself and do what he wishes. He's a very kindhearted person, and would much rather be out healing and using his power to protect and help others than sitting inside and looking pretty like the high-status doll he is. However, he has an irrational fear of being alone, and cannot be anywhere without at least one other person there. As such, he has refused having his own room multiple times, and sleeps in the abbey dormitories with the lower-ranked priests. He despises fighting and will only do so if he absolutely needs to, in order to protect another person.

Wielded Weapons: Christopher isn't much of a fighter, but his ornate staff has some very sharp crystals near its end, and it can fashion as a spear-like weapon should he choose it to, though its main use is to amplify his magic power.

Runes: Christopher has, as mentioned, the Bright Shield half of the Rune of Beginning on his right hand, and a Flowing Rune on his left, to augment his healing abilities. He does not have a rune on his forehead as of yet, but it is expected he will be able to very soon if he keeps up his training.
