Cucco doesn't drown

From the game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo

Take a cucco out of the town and go to where some water is. Jump in, and the cucco will start going all over the place in the water. If that doesn't work, do the Cucco in the wrong place glitch to put it in the water.
