Chip off a piece of the thing you hit with

From the "Brick Attack" game for the Kyocera 2119b cellphone.

When you play Brick Attack, if you can get the ball to hit the sliding thing (I'll call it the racquet) at the corner of either side of the screen, a piece will get chipped out of the racquet. The racquet becomes whole again if you move or pause and unpause.
