Gordon Kippen Early 1960s
Gordon Kippen loved pipe music from the first time he heard it as a child. The music drifted across the fields to his home on the 4th of Kenyon. The piper he heard was Donald Kippen.

As a young man Gordon took piping lessons from Peter MacInnes. In 1942 he joined the S.D.&G Highlanders and remained with them until 1959, when he married Sheila Ferguson and moved to Ottawa.

In 1961, when the Glengarry Highlanders Pipe Band was formed, Gordon became its first Pipe Major, commuting from Ottawa for practice and engagements. He retained that position until 1966, leaving to spend more time with his young family.

Over the years Gordon played for a wide variety of occasions, including weddings, Remembrance Day servies, 12th of July parades, and for the opening of the Dunvegan Museum.

Following a lengthy illness, he passed away in September 1998.
