Duncan (Farmer) McDonald

Duncan Bernard McDonald (Farmer), son of John Alexander (Farmer) and Ella McDonald, was born June 12, 1935 in Glen Roy, Ontario. He attended the local public school, then continued his education at Alexandria high School and Iona Academy in St. Raphael’s, Ontario.Music and entertainment were always a part of the family environment where violin and piano music were so traditional. Duncan, who began playing at an early age, was also influenced by his uncles Leo and Charlie the Farmer. Duncan took violin lessons from Agnes Valade of Alexandria. As a young boy, he played with many of the local violinists at Scottish functions in Glengarry and also local bands at the various dance halls.
He was employed by the Royal Bank in 1955 until his retirement in 1991. Duncan is presently a member of the Glengarry Strathspey and Reel Society. He now resides in Ottawa. He has a son and daughter and three grandchildren.
