Vidar

From Flight From Darkness

Vidar, known during the Ages in which he lived as the King of Warriors, was a Dawn Caste without peer on the battlefield. Keshet may have been more loyal, Merela more skilled, Dinesh more brave, but there was no general before the Primordial War who could match Vidar's ability to lead armies to victory, and there has been none since. It was Vidar who sacrificed an armada to Kimbery's rage to weaken her for the main assault that led to her surrender. It was Vidar whose men built the dam that entrapped The Great Tentacled One. It was Vidar who swung the hammer of the Dragonblooded legions against the armies of Ligier, and Vidar who led a force of Dragon Kings into the darkness under the world to conquer the eyeless armies that tended to Szoreny's roots. It was Vidar who lured Adorjan into Marus' trap. It was Vidar who lost everything in the wastes of the Heart-Frost Unending, and it was Vidar who brought fatal spring into the heart of Hunanura by forcing her to love him.

Of course, he was a cruel and manipulative man, and he inspired fear even among his allies. He fell before the assembled might of the other Solars when they banded behind Merela as queen. He went into exile for centuries, where he remained until he was called forth once more to do battle with Ramethus, who finally brought him his Ending. So feared was Vidar that the successors to his exaltation were encouraged by their elders to study dueling and economics and swordsmanship and poetry, rather than tactics and strategy. So many enemies had Vidar made that his successors tended to die young and with few memories.

Vidar has recently been Incarnate as Eirik Ragnar, leader of the Golden hosts of the Bull of the North. Ragnar was recently slain by Marsilion, the Eidolon of Shadows. His glory is destined to pass to a worthy mortal warrior soon, however, and the Ebon Dragon fears Vidar's reincarnation above most things.
