The Empire

Located on the north west side of the continent, the empire is the most militaristically powerful and ruthless expansionist force at the present time. All citizens are loyal to the emporer, Hellinias Hayden VI and his line of succession. The empire is currently at war with Tiras confederarcy, this war is nominally over trading rights, but represents a deeper abstract philosophical difference, the autocratic and highly religious imperial state contrasting with free-trade and liberal values of the principalities that make up the Tiras Confederacy. The Empire also shares a long border with the wasteland regions, and as such must devote a substantial portion of there military forces to holding off the Goblinoid raiders who come across looking for human flesh.

The government of the empire is strictly autocratic. The emporer has absolute power, however he is advised by a council of seven nobles and five priests of the order of St. Cuthbert . The emporer appoints a representitive to serve as mayor of each of the cities, towns, and villages throughout his realm, although this task is usually relegated to the council. The emporer's appointees have the power to enforce the imperial decrees and legislate law as they see fit, however their decicions may be appealed to one of five magistrates if a mayor's decree is thought to conflict with a decree issued by his majesty. The council also selects an underking, usually a wizard or sorcerer, to run the imperial spy network, look after the emporers health, and protect the kingdom from heresy and rebellion. The Emporer's Council, the Underking, and the Magistrates form a grand council times of succession, to resolve succession disputes and to ensure that no internal conflict arises within the imperial familiy.

The principal agricultural product of the region is various grains, mostly wheat and barley, however manufacturing is playing a growing role as more raw materials come from imperial conquests to the north and east. This has led to the creation a new class in the social strata, that of the capitalist, and these capitalists find themselves increasingly at odds with the old nobility.

The Empire is waging war both to the north, and to the south... The majority of his majesties forces are to the north, fighting the Tiras Confederacy, a veteran minority fight in the south, based at the ancient fortress of Nihil Obstat. Goblinoid tribes in the wasteland to the south strive constantly to break into the fertile imperial grounds, patrolling the border is a constant and dangerous assignment for the three thousand members of the southern watch, An elite military organization specifically designed for combat against the goblins and their kin. There was a war in the west until the recent successful conquest of Cistiphane, (which touched off the Tiras Isles war), which has brought Emporer Hellinias great fame for his skill as genneral, He is quite popular in the capital, though not among his many enemies.
