Edward's Essential Experience

From Extended Railway Series Wiki

Edward's Essential Experience is the second story of ERS 43 Edward's Branch Line. It was written by Ryan.

[edit] Summary

James arrives at Wellsworth to help out on the branch line, and is surprised that Bill and Ben are not there to shunt for him. Edward explains that he and BoCo shunt their own trains- something James is not happy with!

Whilst shunting roughly in the Yard, James gets warned by Donald to not be so rough with the trucks. A line of visiting trucks from the Mainland see James, and plot to get him back for being rough.

James soon gets sick of shunting and the fact that he's getting teased for working on the branch line. Edward tries to reason with him, but loses patience and offers for James to take over passenger duties while he does the goods work. At the Harbour Edward collects the visiting trucks, who are keen for revenge and decide to take it out on Edward anyway.

Into the journey the trucks start playing tricks, and Edward tries to control them. They surge against him, making him go dangerously fast. Edward and his crew try to slow them down, but fail. They race through Suddery station and past James, who realises this is his fault.

Edward then has an idea, and they fight for control as they approach the hill. With the weight of the trucks, they manage to slow down whilst going up the hill. By the time they reach the station they stop safely, where Donald is waiting. Edward reassures Donald that even though the trucks can be unruly, with experience they can be controlled.

James later apologises to Edward for causing the trucks to be troublesome, and Edward reminds James to be careful and not be so rough when shunting. He also points out that knowing the route is essential for remaining in control.
