Neverborn Reborn

From Exaltedcursejar

The Primordials were never meant to die. That didn't stop the Exalted, though, as their powers transcend what is and isn't possible, and they forced the Neverborn into the patterns that were made solely for the beings of Creation, resulting in the creation of the Underworld and worse, Oblivion. But then, the wheel of reincarnation is designed to reconstitute the dead into new lives. If the Neverborn have been forced into an unnatural state of death, perhaps they can force an unnatural rebirth as well...

Who's In On It?: Is there a lone dissentor among the Neverborn who endures death and madness in the hopes of escape from endless torment and Oblivion alike? If so, they may have to hide their intentions from the other Neverborn, keeping Deathlords beholden only to itself to covertly prepare Creation for its rebirth, or end up being the first of them to escape torment through Oblivion. Or maybe it keeps its secret because it thinks that the wheel of reincarnation will only allow for one dead Primordial to be able to return in a new life. Otherwise, all the Neverborn may be working towards reincarnation, either competing to be the first or cooperating to ensure success. This would change the feel of any Abyssal game to something similar to the Yozi's Reclamation plans, only with a deathly taint.

How Do You Do It?: It's not hard to imagine that the soul of dead Primordial that was once made of dozens or hundreds of seperate souls of unbelievable power is just plain bigger than a human soul, metaphysically. The wheel of reincarnation isn't made to bring something like that back to life. But then it wasn't made to let something like that die in the first place. It may require an immense number of souls to be hurled into Oblivion all at once to open a space large enough for a Neverborn soul, maybe millions or even billions of lives lost forever. Or it may take a very specific soul, cultivated and shaped into a form similar to the Neverborn in shape and power. Perhaps the Abyssals themselves are intended for this purpose, as the taint of Oblivion transforms them into cthonic demigods as their Essence rises. These options don't exclude the standard plan of killing everything forever, though. After all, the Neverborn may simply err on the side of caution and attempt to destroy all living beings in order to leave the path open for them and them alone.

What If It Works?: What sort of being would a Neverborn reincarnate into? Reincarnation is not resurrection, after all, so it's not likely they'll return as the beings they originally were. They might be reborn as new Primordials, who may end up being taken into protective custody by Gaia, unwilling to let her siblings die another time. Twisted and mad as they are in death, they may remain so in their next lives, becoming like the Yozis, and may fall under the oaths that keep Yozis in prison, or kept free, as they have never been forced to make such oaths in the first place. This may be the worst option for Creation, as the callous indifference of a Primordial is a blessing compared to the deliberate cruelty of a vengeful demon king. They may even become mortal, either joining the rest of Creation as a truly integrated part of it, or being a dangerous and powerful anomaly, a sort of self-made Exalted who bends the threads of reality with remnants of Primordial or Abyssal power.

What If It Doesn't?: It could be that for all their efforts, their desire to live again is futile, and will only bring about more suffering for the living and dead alike. They didn't care about Creation when they were alive, and they certainly wouldn't after it betrayed them, so even if their struggles are in vain, they're most likely more than willing to drag Creation down into Oblivion with them in their attempts to claw back up into it.
