Espers

From Dynasts End

Twelve scions who rebelled against their creators, the Gods, and were subsequently sealed and banished to the most remote regions of Ivalice. They can only walk the earth if they are summoned through their Glyph by a Summoner.

To obtain an Esper's Glyph, one must travel to their shrine and pray to them. These shrines are scattered across Ivalice, and none are easily entered. Praying alone doesn't ensure that one will be given a Glyph, as the Esper itself must sense affinity to the summoner as well. Each Glyph is unique to its Esper, and once a summoner obtains it, that Glyph cannot be obtained by another until the summoner bearing it dies.

Of the twelve scions, eleven are available in Dynast's End. The list of Espers currently taken in-game is here.

[edit] Belias, the Gigas

"Scion of darkness and guardian of the Holy Realm, made by the gods in opposition to the Transcendent Loghrif, scion of light. Called the Gigas for his appearance: man and monster fused as one. Considered a mistake upon his making, and receiving not his intended role, the Gigas challenged the gods and lost. Scorned by his masters, he found another: the Dynast-King, whose tomb he swore to protect for eternity."

The Esper of Fire, he represents the Zodiac sign of Aries, the Ram (which is also a fire sign). However, his only ram-like feature are his horns and hooves. From his power of Fire, his color sign is Red. He is also referred to as the Mesha Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

Though he once guarded the Tomb of Raithwall, the Gigas Shrine was built deep in the southern reaches of the Golmore Jungle, at the entrance to the Feywood. The thick Mist makes it a particularly dangerous spot, and few are able to make the journey without a versed guide.

[edit] Mateus, the Corrupt

"Scion of darkness ruling and protecting those who live in the underworld, in opposition to Lahabrea, Abyssal Celebrant and scion of light. In the course of his rule, he submitted to avarice, and the darkness took his heart, transforming him until he was both evil and corrupt. Then in his cowardice did he bind a Goddess of the Demesne of Ice, and using her as a living shield, he challenged the gods. Defeated before their might, he fell screaming into the depths of hell, there to be imprisoned for eternity."

The Esper of Ice, he represents the Zodiac sign of Pisces, the Fish. This is reflected by the fact that Mateus has fish-like aspects to his appearance. From his power of Ice, his color sign is Blue. He is also referred to as the Meena Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

The Corrupter's Shrine resides at the entrance to the Stilshrine of Myriam, near the Paramina Rift. One must trek through thick snow and ice to reach the shrine, though it is still more accessible than most of its counterparts.

[edit] Adrammelech, the Wroth

"Emperor among the scions, able to reduce to nothing aught he strikes with a single vengeful blow of his fist, created in opposition to Deudalephon the Benevolent, scion of light. Though he was made by the gods to quell the fiends that raged in the Otherworld, his immense strength and fearsome visage drew the fiends to his side, and turned him against his creators. Adrammelech rose to prominence in the Otherworld, whence he led a fiendish horde against the gods, but in the end, he was defeated."

The Esper of Thunder, he represents the Zodiac sign of Capricorn, the Goat. Despite his dragon-like form, there are several parts in relevance to a goat, most notably his goat-like head and the cloven hooves on his feet. Due to his power over Thunder, his color sign is Yellow. He is also referred to as the Makara Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

The Wroth Shrine lies in the Zertinan Caverns, a vast network of caves that run beneath Dalmasca, the Jagd Yensa, and Bancour. All manner of beasts swarm within the caverns, though most stay far from the eternal sandstorm that rages around the shrine.

[edit] Zalera, the Death Seraph

"Heretic scion who wrapped the world in dark energies, seeking to take the souls of all living things unto himself. Created in opposition to Emet-Selch, Angel of Truth, and scion of light. Originally tasked with the judgment of men upon their deaths, his soul was tainted by the curses of those who raged against the heavens, and seizing one of the god's servants, a shamaness, as a hostage, he rebelled against his creators. Even now, in defeat, he clutches the shamaness to him in his right arm, and with the aid of her death-wail does he summon the soul of darkness to do his bidding."

The Esper of Death, he represents the Zodiac sign of Gemini, the Twins. The shamaness grafted onto his right wing represents his twin. From his power of Death, his color sign is Violet. He is also referred to as the Mithuna Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

The Seraph's Shrine is located in Barheim Passage, deep beneath the Nalbina Dungeon. To access the shrine, one must travel through the Dungeon's catacombs, a journey which only the bravest of summoners are able to undertake.

[edit] Shemhazai, the Whisperer

"Scion that is both horse and woman, wielding utter control over the souls that wander the underworld, in opposition to the Martyr Igeyorhm, scion of light. Though she once served the gods as a guardian, when Ultima announced her rebellion, Shemhazai went to her, whispering of the gods' hidden weaknesses. She then descended upon the land without leave of the gods, and taught men of destruction and evil. For this was she stricken down and bound."

The Esper of Soul, she represents the Zodiac sign of Sagittarius, the Archer. This is because her hands resemble crossbows, and she has horse-like qualities. From her power of Soul, her color sign is Pink. She is also referred to as the Dhanus Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

The Whisperer's Shrine is located in the ruined Sochen Cave Palace. Monsters infest the caves, and one must also withstand the whispers it's said cloud the air, though no traveler has thus been willing to disclose what they say.

[edit] Hashmal, Bringer of Order

"Scion set by the gods to wield and manipulate the laws of this world, and with holy power lead mankind to order. Created in opposition to Fandaniel the Protector, scion of light. Desiring to bring order to all things, he joined with Ultima in her battle against the gods. He gave his body to the Thousand-Years War, and when his strength was spent, down into the burning inferno he fell."

The Esper of Earth, he represents the Zodiac sign of Leo, the Lion. His face does resemble that of a large feline, though he is overall humanoid shape. From his power of Earth, his color sign is Green. He is also referred to as the Simha Ascendant.

[edit] Shrine

The Order Shrine lies in the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea, near the entrance to the Tomb of Raithwall. Summoners wishing to obtain the Glyph of Hashmal must brave the fiercely territorial Urutan-Yensa who dwell there.

[edit] Cúchulainn, the Impure

"Scion created to rid the world of its impurities by swallowing them within himself, in opposition to Nabriales the Majestic, scion of light. The world, however, was more filled with impurity and corruption than even the gods dared imagine, and having swallowed it all, the once beautiful Cúchulainn was transformed into a hideous thing, a deity of filth, and so did he turn against his creators. Wherever his feet should fall, there all life withers to dust."

The Esper of Poison, he represents the Zodiac sign of Scorpio, the Scorpion. While normally he doesn't resemble a scorpion, during his ultimate attack, giant claws come out of his back and strike into the ground. His arms also have some resemblance to a scorpion shell. From his power of Poison, his color sign is Brown. He is also referred to as the Vrishchika Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

The Impurity Shrine is located in the bowels of the Garamsythe Waterway beneath the city of Rabanastre. Summoners seeking the shrine often bring chemists as guides, as much of the water and air surrounding the shrine is deadly to imbibe.

[edit] Zeromus, the Condemner

"Honoring the law more than any other, a scion of holy order and condemner of criminals. Created in opposition to Knight-Star Pashtarot, scion of light. He turns his deep, abiding hatred for those who break the law into living darkness, therein to plunge the guilty in fell judgment. Over time, he came to care less for upholding the law and more for condemnation, and so tainted by hate, he sought to condemn the gods themselves to death. Thus did he earn the title of "the Condemner," and thus did he fall from grace."

The Esper of Gravity, he represents the Zodiac sign of Cancer, the Crab. Zeromus has a giant claw, just like a crab. From his power of Gravity, his color sign is Indigo. He is also referred to as the Karka Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

The Condemner's Shrine resides in a cave in the Paramina Rift, hidden amid the snow. Only the Acolytes of Mt. Bur-Omisace know where the cave is and how to navigate through it.

[edit] Exodus, the Judge-Sal

"Most ancient of the scions, created in opposition to Halmarut, the Arbiter, and scion of light. Tasked with keeping watch over the world, with the authority to judge the value of all things. As he watched, unseen, unknown, his attachment to the world dwindled and faded until it was as nothing. Fitting that he would desire to make the world, too, as nothing. Yet he fell in the war against the gods, and was thwarted, imprisoned in punishment for his heresy."

The Esper of Aether, he represents the Zodiac sign of Libra, the Scale. Exodus is indeed standing on a platform with a scale. His color sign is Orange due to being a non-elemental, but orange is still a suitable color for the element aether. He is also referred to as the Tula Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

The Judgment Shrine rests on the highest rock spire of the Mosphoran Highwaste. To reach the shrine one must climb to the top of the spire, which reaches higher than even the highbuildings of Archades.

[edit] Famfrit, the Darkening Cloud

"The hideous, darkly clouded form of Famfrit, scion in opposition to Holy Queen Emmerololth, scion of light, was anathema even to his creators. Thus, after a great battle, was he broken and sealed within armor laced with wards. The confines of his armor are void of light, so he is called the Darkening Cloud. Mean fear the rain that falls from the black clouds that ooze from the giant ewer as a herald of chaos and waste."

The Esper of Water, he represents the Zodiac sign of Aquarius, the Water Carrier. This is evident since he carries a large jug on his shoulder. From his power of Water, his color sign is Clear. He is also referred to as the Kumbha Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

The Clouded Shrine is located in the deepest chamber of the Lhusu Mines. Despite frequent excavations, monsters continue to lurk in the deep caverns, drawn to the shrine.

[edit] Chaos, Walker of the Wheel

"Tutelary deity of the sacred crystals fashioned by the gods at the time of the Great Making. Created in opposition to Mitron the Chastiser, scion of light. Upon entering the world of Man, he was enveloped in the turmoil rampant there. Lost, he died and was reborn countless times, a walker of life's wheel, eventually to rage against the gods that had so fated him. By sitting in meditation upon the Uneh Pedestal does he clear heart and mind until all that has order and reason and thought is made as nothing."

The Esper of Wind, he represents the Zodiac sign of Taurus, the Bull. Chaos has two large horns on his head, similar to those of a bull. From his power of Wind, his color sign is Gray. He is also referred to as the Vrishabha Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

[edit] Shrine

The Walker's Shrine lies at the entrance to the Necrohol of Nabudis. One must journey through the Salikawood to reach the Necrohol, and even its very entrance is crowded with the restless spirits of those killed in the city's decimation.
