[edit] Appearance

Despite being, as most Viera are, beautiful, Diyl prefers not to use it to her advantage (it would be oh so easy and oh so boring). Deciding to go against the trend of dying her hair, she kept it characteristically silver, just cutting it slightly. She wears many elaborate earrings and other jewellery (which she always removes before taking on a job), and like many Viera, wears light and revealing garments.

Due to her work, she also wears wounds and scars from the stronger targets. The most noticeable is a scar on the bottom of her chin, which runs down her neck, a reminder from a particularly nasty fight with a noted sky pirate. Her right ear, if one looks closely enough, also bears a small scar - a tiny chunk missing from near the tip. She feels it adds character and distinguishes her from 'all of the other runaway Viera'.

[edit] History

A wood-warder in Eruyt Village, Diyl used to watch the Humes trekking through Golmore Jungle and attempting to pass her people's barriers. Having been told they were a violent and cruel race, she kept her distance but still found herself fascinated by their seemingly free lifestyles. Having no family in her village, Diyl longed for a similar freedom and most of all, a change from her monotonous existence in the Wood.

She left the Wood at the age of 31 and quickly made the acquaintance of a Hume gentleman, who introduced her to the beautiful world of adventure. Having been suppressed by the emotionless Viera ideal (which Diyl now believes is only a response to the immense boredom of such a life), she here discovered a whole new side to herself. In one sense, she figures, she became a Hume. Even after leaving her companion (he got far too dependent), she continued to adventure, eventually covering majority of Ivalice. Her journey across Ivalice taught her many things, including the depth of her skills in battle. She found she felt a strange thrill in hunting and fighting and took on hunts as a pleasure rather than a way to gain gil. She soon gained herself a reputation as 'That Viera'. Many soon came to her with more unconventional hunts.

She quickly fell in love with her new profession as a Bounty Hunter, finding it was more challenging to hunt and capture humes than to hunt beasts and more enjoyable delivering justice to those who believed themselves above decency. With her efficiency in such a profession came new offers from clients who wished to remain anonymous. Diyl soon found herself hunting infamous sky pirates and retrieving priceless heirlooms one day and silently eliminating political figures the next. The latter always paid more, but she found both were fun.

She based herself in Balfonheim, obviously due to the location perks. Here she could watch Ivalician piracy, keep her eye on rising figures in the black market, and also remain close enough to the city where the majority of her darker assignments came from.

Keywords: brutal, unrelenting, focused, conceited, confident, pessimistic, sarcastic, vicious, distrusting, realistic, stubborn

While working, Diyl is focused, brutal and unrelenting. She works for pleasure, despite being paid well for it. There's something so terribly exhilarating about the career, which she acknowledges might have something to do with a vicious, slightly sadistic streak she's found in herself. She enjoys delivering punishment to the greedy, to the self-important, to the dangerous. The job also gives her a way to cure her boredom, something she can't stand to feel, having spent 31 years of her life feeling it.

She sees the world in a negative light but enjoys it all the same. Bitterly sarcastic and lacking in faith, she trusts no-one and most of her acquaintances are pirates who know what she does for a living so they don't exactly trust her either. However, this works for her. She surrounds herself with people she doesn't trust only so she can play with them and keeps out the people she could possibly connect with. It's much easier for everyone that way. Besides, there are very few people in Balfonheim who are desirable companions for such a being, beyond the necessary pleasures that stop her from becoming bored between jobs.

Despite being confident and self-assured, she secretly fears becoming so Hume-like she will allow herself to their weaknesses. She sees their characteristics infiltrating her (the viciousness, enjoying physicality, a sudden, lustful nature she can't quite explain…) and worries that one day her now quiet desire for companionship will consume her as it does Humes and other Viera. Partners can only get in her way, she tells herself.

[edit] Skills

Hunting, working on her own, fighting, living off the land.

  • Strengths: Can hunt down almost anyone, is incredibly focused when she sets her mind on something, never considers failure to be an option
  • Weaknesses: Doesn't trust anyone unless they give her a reason to, pessimistic about Hume nature and the direction of their world, stubborn, non-humanoid creatures disgust her, will do anything to stop boredom, rarely apologises.
