[edit] Appearance
To some people, Chelinka is a pretty girl. Others, however, find her jaw and lips to be too wide, teeth too big, herself overall being sort of quirky looking, her body slightly more curvaceous than typical of the hard working Dalmascan women (some have remarked that this reflects on Chelinka's 'laziness' or as Chelinka says, her preference for less physical work). When she smiles, her dark eyes scrunch up and her teeth seem to take up her whole face.
She wears a few items of jewellery, all of which she is attached to. She always wears a colourful necklace that was a gift from her brother (she now realises that it was probably stolen but the gesture still remains significant). A simple chain bracelet with a few charms attached adorns her wrist, along with a cheap, purple and blue bracelet Chelinka made herself. Due to her poverty, she has few items of clothing and often wears the same outfits, short dresses or skirts with large brown, buckled boots that she's fond of.

Chelinka, like most Dalmascans, was born into the slums of Rabanastre. Her parents had both been children born as a result of the kingdom's restoration celebration and grew up in a world where education and Dalmascan rights were slowly given back to the people. Her father profited from this, becoming comparatively (compared to his Dalmascan kin) well educated. However, his education was not enough when it came to holding a well paying and steady job. The Archadians were much more business-savvy and cutthroat than he, and his lack of status and prestige made it difficult to even compete. To add his problems, he firmly believed that stability would only come from leaving selfishness behind and he refused to partake in any work that took advantage of others. This attitude meant he worked very little and spent majority of his time teaching his children.
Chelinka found very early that education was her safe haven. Her parents fought constantly and her older brother Jayrn, disgusted with his father's seeming lack of concern, had joined a small but volatile group of Lowtown thieves who made their profits through harassing the resident Archadians. The group made the mistake of stealing from a prominent upper resident, Jayrn in particular getting away with a priceless heirloom. Revenge was swift and Jayrn was the gang's scapegoat, dying from a gunshot wound to the chest in the Garamsythe Waterway. His father found him two days later and in a desperate and uncharacteristic attempt at revenge, he too died alone in the sewers.
Chelinka always equated her education with her father and found his death only strengthened her passion for learning. Fascinated by the artistry and elegance of magick and adept at its practice, she managed to gain herself employment as an assistant in the magicks shop. She works there regularly and when she isn't working or searching for new knowledge, she tends to her mother, who wishes her daughter cared more about finding a husband and a proper job than finding another book.

With a strong thirst for knowledge, Chelinka has always had a particular curiosity about other people. But rather than seem nosy and strange, she prefers to quietly observe and imagine a story for their lives. Having grown up in the diverse but close community of Lowtown, amongst the poor and petty criminals, she knows how to socialise nicely with others but since the death of her father and brother and her complete immersion into her studies, she has never really made true friends but rather a long list of acquaintances. She finds herself to be slightly awkward and self-conscious around most and with a severe lack of street smarts (which many find strange in a girl who grew up in Lowtown) and her father's beliefs instilled in her, she is extremely gullible and is often fooled and taken advantage of.
Chelinka has never really felt proud in anything about herself other than her intelligence and in this area she is quite proud of her accomplishments. While not outwardly boastful, she feels her book smarts and magickal skill sets her apart and if she should be proved wrong or, worse, made to look stupid, she feels a deep sense of shame that at times ignites an almost uncharacteristic anger in her. She looks down upon those in a favourable position who haven't made the most of their luck and in particular, those who have become successful with little effort. Since she feels her intelligence is her best asset, she works hard to improve it and those who know her best claim she seems almost obsessive about finding new sources of knowledge. To Chelinka, there is no more exhilarating feeling than finding something new. Indeed, her most reckless actions have been in the search of books or scrolls and the possibility of finding new information brings out an weird giddiness in her and a strange confidence that disappears as soon as she realises she's got it.
Despite her knowledge, she has a romantic view of the world which she describes as 'optimistic', others unrealistic. She's very rarely seen upset or angry (unless her father or brother are mentioned), she believes that with perseverance and a positive attitude, success will come and deep down, all people are truly good at heart (even if they seem otherwise). She harbours no secret prejudice against any race, having grown up amongst all sorts in Lowtown, and believes negative stereotypes are outdated. She longs for the day in which she could travel to other lands, just to witness them for herself and she secretly hopes one day she'll get a chance at adventure but she's also a little apprehensive about the idea.
