Organizations

From Dexnet

There are several organizations of which player characters may be members.

Teams

Teams are the less socially acceptable organizations running around the Pokémon world. Most of them run on Pokémon trafficking. They include:

People for the Ethical Treatment of Pokémon (PETP)

PETP is a somewhat nefarious organization that lobbies for Pokémon rights. Their goals include bringing down the Pokémon League, stopping the capture and training of Pokémon, and preventing Pokémon abuse. The more fanatic members refuse to eat Pokémon or use Pokémon products. They're known to picket outside of Silph Co. buildings, PokéMarts, and Gyms. PETP members may own Pokémon of their own, but they won't fight them and refuse to keep them inside PokéBalls.

It's easy to be tricked into joining PETP under their rather innocuous mission statement of ensuring that Pokémon are treated ethically, but the deeper one gets into their clutches, the darker and more sinister the organization becomes. They've been accused on occasion of being this close to a terrorist organization, but as yet have done nothing to warrant being shut down.

Cinnabar Labs

Cinnabar Labs is the name of an independant research facility located on Cinnabar Island. It was founded by the now retired Mr. Fuji. It's essentially a think-tank of Pokémon research and it's responsible for many of the technological advances in the Pokémon world today. Rumour is that Cinnabar Labs are the ones behind the creation of Porygon (though rumour also is that Team Rocket is also behind the creation of Porygon. Nobody's quite sure which is true).

While Pokémon may be the main focus of the facility, Cinnabar Labs also conducts non-Pokémon related research, though it is not quite as popular or spoken of. They also breed Kanto's starter Pokémon for export to Pokémon Centers.

Joy Family

While not technically an organization, the Joy family owns the PokéCenters and raises Chansey to work as aides. At least one female member of the Joy family will work at any given PokéCenter, and even though non-Joys can work at PokéCenters, there is always a Joy in charge of the facility.

All the female Joy family members look eerily similar in terms of facial features, hair colour (pinkish red), and eye colour (blue). They can be very difficult to tell apart, and it has even led to rumours that all the Joy family members are actually cloned. Male Joy family members tend to look nothing like their female counterparts and are usually treated as black sheep by the rest of the family.

While Joys are not required to go into Pokémon nursing as a career, it is highly encouraged and most are trained from a young age under the assumption that they will eventually become Nurse Joys. Ones who do not are usually outcast, much like male family members.

Because the sight of Joys working as PokéCenter nurses is so common, PokéCenter nurses are usually referred to as Nurse Joys whether or not they are actually members of the Joy family.

Jenny Family

Similar to the Joy family, the Jenny family is not technically an organization, but they own the nation's police forces. Most police officers will be members of the Jenny family, and all high-ranking officers will definitely be Jennies. Because of the prevalence of officers named Jenny, most officers will be referred to as Officer Jenny or collectively as Jennies, whether they are in the Jenny family or not. Jenny has become a slang term for a cop.

Also similarly to the Joy family, all female Jenny family members look eerily similar in terms of facial structure, hair colour (blue), and eye colour (brown). They're also sometimes accused of being a family made up entirely of clones, and they also outcast their male members or members who choose not to go into the police force.

Officers usually work in pairs, ride motorcycles, and use Growlithe or Arcanine as their Pokémon partners. They can have other Pokémon on their teams, but Growlithe are issued by the force.
