Appearance
Gemma is often confused for being younger than she actually is, being so short (5'1") and thin. Always wearing her long, blonde hair in pigtails does not help matters much either. She has sharp, purple eyes that reflect her energy and enthusiasm. She usually dresses casually, sometimes even looking downright slovenly, as she's often paying too much attention to her cause to focus on her appearance. While she's usually avoided because her opinions are unpopular, sometimes she's avoided for just being smelly instead. She does, however, carry around a few nice things with her from her time living with her wealthy grandparents which she keeps for special occasions.

Personality
Gemma is impressionable and a little too trusting, to say the least. Whatever the higher ups of PETP say, she'll do it, no questions asked. She's also pretty dense, so she firmly believes that whatever they tell her to do will be the right thing and will definitely be another step towards all Pokemon living in peace and harmony with humans! She's fiery, energetic and persistant though, getting on the case of anyone who so much as speaks to her if they actually battle Pokemon or keep them in PokeBalls. She wishes she had enough time in her day to scream at everyone individually who passed by her with PokeBalls at their belt, but alas, she resorts to passing out fliers in town squares (which usually get thrown away immediately). Around those who share her views or just have no interest in treating Pokemon in the ways she disagrees with, she is friendly, cheerful and playful. She can be cordial with Pokemon trainers who at least don't feel the need to argue with her about her mission, but she could probably never become friends with one as long as they stayed a trainer.
History
Gemma's life started with tragedy. She was born a couple of months premature, and unfortunately the same complication that caused that also killed her mother in childbirth. Her father left soon after this, feeling unable to handle Gemma by himself. He only saw her through the first half year of her life before entrusting her to his parents, a nice couple living in peaceful Sandgem Town. Luckily Gemma's life from then on would be a mostly happy one, at least until she and her grandparents decided to take a trip to the ski lodge near Snowpoint City when Gemma was 12 years old. While out having fun on the slopes during the trip, Gemma lost her way and went missing for several hours. As traumatizing as it was for her, it was also significant to her future involvement with the Pokemon world as this was where she met her one and only Pokemon, Sally the Delibird, who had actually been released by a previous owner within the area. Sally found Gemma huddled up near a tree and, as is typical for Delibirds, graciously shared its stored food with her. Gemma was found soon after by her grandparents and a search and rescue team and, after much begging, was allowed to take Sally with her. Before meeting Sally, Gemma had never been as interested in Pokemon as most other children around her seemed to be, even towards the training aspect. As soon as she obtained Sally, however, she began seeking out information concerning Delibirds, which lead her to developing a hobby of studying Pokemon in general, mostly through the use of books. During her studying, she read up on publications by the group known as PETP concerning Pokemon abuse and cruelty. It was a subject that immediately touched and angered Gemma, to the point where she knew that she wanted to pursue justice for the Pokemon that were experiencing the cruelty. Her first reaction was to of course join PETP, especially since the publications that she was reading were plastered with recruitment ads. Gemma left home, along with Sally of course, to begin her work with PETP when she was 14 and has not been back since. She has already gotten as far as Kanto in the three or so years that she has been traveling but did not stop in every city along the way. Currently she is in Vermilion City preaching the good word of anti-Pokemon cruelty, and she will probably be there longer than she usually stays in one place since it reminds her of home.
