Croydon sightings for 2009
Please do not post details of scarce breeding birds (those included in Schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, amended 2000). Any such reports will be removed. We would still like to know of such potential breeding records, so please e-mail them to us.

- 22nd - Duppas Hill - female Sparrowhawk mobbed by Crow, flew over the park scattering a large number of Starlings and pigeons. (Simon Harris)
- 20th - Riddlesdown - 10 Stock Doves, 15+ Linnets, 10+ Long-tailed Tits, 2 Mistle Thrush, 1 Pheasant, 10+ Jackdaws, 1 Skylark singing, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming. (John Birkett)
- 20th - South Norwood Lake - 1 Great Crested Grebe, 8 Cormorant, 2 Common Gull, 10 Redwing, 2 Siskin (John Watson)
- 18th - 3 Redwings including one singing bird outside Park Hill Junior School, Stanhope Road. (Alan Pearson)
- 17th - Selsdon Wood - 14 singing Song Thrush, 4 Mistle Thrush, 2 Redwing, 58 Woodpigeon, 2 Stock Dove, 2 Green Woodpecker, 2 Bullfinch, Tawny Owl, 3 singing Skylark (Ted Forsyth)
- 17th - Markfield - 2 Lesser Redpoll on feeders, flock of 20 Goldfinches nearby, female Blackcap (Ted Forsyth)
- 16th - 5 Redwings including 2 singing birds outside Park Hill Junior School, Stanhope Road. (Alan Pearson)
- 15th - Hutchinson's Bank - Sparrowhawk mobbed by BHGull, One Buzzard mobbed by Crow flew over New Addington, second Buzzard flew high over the site avoiding three model planes (Ted Forsyth)

- 12th - Markfield - Marsh Tit, Coal Tit, 2 Long-tailed Tit, 6 Great Tit, 20 Blue Tit, 2 Lesser Redpoll, female Blackcap (Ted Forsyth )
- 11th - 5 Redwings feeding on Duppas Hill Park opposite Warrington Road. (Simon Harris)
- 11th - Markfield - Goldcrest, female Blackcap, 4 Long-tailed Tit, male Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Jay (Ted Forsyth)
- 8th - Farleigh Dean Crescent, Featherbed Lane - Sparrowhawk flew over (Ted Forsyth)
- 3rd - Green Sandpiper flew over Norbury Park about 13:05 flying towards Norbury Brook. (Terry and Linda Osborn)
- 2nd - 15+ Blackbirds eating apples in a Sanderstead garden after heavy snow. Also 30 Greenfinches, 20 Chaffinches and 3 Goldfinches on feeders. Fieldfare heard. (John Birkett)

- 31st - New Addington (Rowdown area) - 1 Sparrowhawk, 40 Fieldfares, 10 Redwings, 1 Siskin, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Stonechat, 4 Skylarks, 2 Bullfinches (John Birkett & Simon Harris)
- 29th - 60-70 Pied Wagtails roosting near Tesco in Purley this week. (John Wood)
- 29th - Selsdon Wood - 4 Redwing, 3 Fieldfare, 2 Mistle Thrush, Goldcrest, Tawny Owl (Ted Forsyth)
- 23rd - South Norwood CP - one Redpoll flew over, 1 Kestrel (John Birkett)
- 21st - Selsdon Wood - Treecreeper, Goldcrest, 8 Nuthatch, Bullfinch, 4 Redwing, Tawny Owl (Ted Forsyth)
- 20th - South Norwood CP - Red-legged Partridge, Water Rail. (London Birders)
- 19th - Waxwing - Calling loudly from one of the ornamental alders outside Debenhams in the pedestrianised area of the main high street. Watched for about a minute before it took off and flew north up the High Street still calling. (Alan Pearson)
