WAS: Take the right path

From Create Your Own Story

There’s a village in the distance, or at least you hope it is, in your current state there’s a big possibility that your mind is playing tricks on you. The chilling winds run through you, stealing away your essential body heat. The wind has left you frozen, unable to feel your limbs. If it weren’t for your horse the indifferent cold would have claimed your life.

……

Creeping darkness emerges in the corners of your eyes. You vision has almost faded. Your horse needs to stand right by the door for you to read the sign. “The top of the mountain.” An inn, thank the gods. You smack your numb hand against the door. It opens, but by now the creeping darkness has made your vision to blurry for you to study his face. You tell him “I have money.” And then collapse.

……

The inn keeper is probably the only honest innkeeper in these mountains. He could have left you for death, but you awake in a warm bed, pillows, duvets, bed sheets, and an extra blanket, all the luxuries.

You grin at having beaten death, then fall unconscious once again.

………

“How much money do you got?”

The innkeeper awakens you. He’s a fat man with an unkempt beard. He has thick eyebrows that bring a feeling of strictness to his character.

“Enough…” You simply say, the numbing coldness still occupying your throat.

“Show me.”

You reach for your coin pouch. It’s only now that you realize how odd this is. You still have your money pouch? Nobody stole it when you were unconscious? Your trusty sword is right next to the bed, and your clothes are still on your body. This innkeeper is a bit to honest for you to believe. You pick a gold coin from the pouch and then show it to the innkeeper.

The innkeeper’s eyes grow wide in chock. He reaches for the coin like a starving man but then suddenly pulls back. “You keep it, this one on the house stranger.” He says like if he’s your best friend.

“Why…” You ask barely audible.

The man turns his face away from yours before replying. “Only helping my fellow countryman from the Seven Mountains. In these harsh mountains you must protect your own.”

With those words he leaves, leaving you alone to recover.

“Liar.” You whisper to yourself before once again going to sleep.

……

You wake up later at an unknown time, still weak but not helpless anymore. There’s a bright light shining through the window. You wonder if you should try and explore the inn.
