Try to fight back.

From Create Your Own Story

You stumble back from the blow. You know that your nose is broken. The coppery flavor of unconsciousness is flooded away by the taste of iron. Copious amounts of blood pour into your mouth.

The guard tries to unsheath his sword, but you barrel into him. You initiate a grapple. He has a firm grasp of his sword, but you take him at the wrist and elbow, guiding the tip of the guard's own sword into his neck. The others have caught sight of this, and begin to rush into the fray. The crowd is going wild as well, no longer focusing on the joust but the actual fighting on the list field.

You struggle through the fight. Their swords slash against your chain mail to no avail as you bludgeon one with your fist, and wrestle with a third. In the fray, a sword comes down upon your hand as you swing for a guard's face. It lops off your pinky finger and drives vertically down the length of your hand, stopping somewhere between your radius and ulna. The pain is overwhelming.

Another sword comes from behind. You don't even see it coming. The tapered point of the sword drives into your back, breaking the chainmail and chiseling its way between your lower vertebrae.

You are brought down to your knees. More guards file in. Your vision starts to tunnel. There is screaming everywhere. The crowd is in chaos. Guards are filling the field. The ones who put you down no longer bother engaging you as they start forming a perimeter around the Duchess. They do not even take the time to execute you. You bleed to death after a few excruciating minutes.

You are dead. [tip: Combat is going to be visceral in this story. You are not superman. Do not charge armed guards without a weapon.]
