Try to bluff your way through

You figure it's best to try to bluff your way through. If you take off, you figure, the soldiers would probably open fire. You take a deep breath as you approach the checkpoint and slow your Jeep to a stop. Nine Syrian soldiers, under the command of a sergeant, stand guard.

The sergeant asks who you are and where you are going. You give him your prepared cover story about being a Lebanese businesswoman. He scowls. "Why are you driving into a war zone? And why do the license plates on your vehicle indicate it's from rebel-held territory? I think you are a smuggler, trying to bring weapons to the rebels." He stands up straight. "Men! Search the car. And search her too."
