Try to avoid it by driving off into the desert

You whip the Jeep hard to the right and take off across the Syrian desert, the Jeep bouncing wildly. The soldiers manning the checkpoint open fire with their machine guns. Several of them jump into a Jeep of their own and begin pursuing you. Bullets strike your vehicle's rear window, shattering it. Cursing, you grab your AK-47 with your left hand while continuing to steer with your right. Holding your weapon out the open driver's side window, you point it at your pursuers and fire one-handed, glad that years of gymnastics have given you stronger wrists than most men. You hear glass shattering and a male cry. Sneaking a glance back, you see that the soldiers' vehicle has stopped while they push the dead driver out and another man gets behind the wheel. That buys you some time as you push ahead, bouncing as fast as you can across the rough desert surface. All this time bullets are being fired continuously in your direction.
Suddenly, your Jeep lurches. A bullet has punctured one of the rear tires. Now moving much more slowly, it's become a much easier target. The other back tire is soon hit as well. You can barely move now. The soldiers' vehicle is coming closer and closer. The sound of bullets striking metal is all around you. You can't keep this up for much longer. You see a low hill about twenty yards to your right. There would be cover behind it...if you can get across the open ground alive.
