"I mortgaged my house to save my ex's business from bankruptcy."

"Really? And why would you do that?"

"I was naive, and I trusted him. Unfortunately, he gambled the money away... Then I lost my old job a few months ago, and things quickly went downhill."

"There's nothing more expensive than naivety. You shouldn't trust men that much... myself included. I understand you must be quite desperate to ask a virtual stranger for help... but just how desperate are you?"

He places his hand on my thigh, amusement in his eyes.

"What are you--"

"There's only one kind of business I'm interested in doing with you." Darren licks his lips and my cheeks get warm.

No, this is not okay. I should go.

Without thinking twice, I get up to walk away from this humiliation.

"Did I say something wrong?"

I pause halfway down the stairs, trying to spot Brie in the crowd. Instead, something else catches my eye.

What's happening? Looks like that man is causing a commotion. He's arguing with a crying waitress.

"I want you to go home. Now!"

"Leave me alone. Please."

"Not until you quit and go home! You know this place is known for orgies and sexual slavery!"

"Dad, you're embarrassing yourself."

"I don't care! I just want my daughter back. This place is a gateway to hell. It's a disgrace to work here!"

Just as the waitress's father said that Ronan chimes in, "Follow me, sir."

"No! Y'all are going to hell. You know that, right? Yes, especially you."

The man frantically points at people. But before he can cause a bigger scene, bouncers approach and escort him out.

"Damn you, you degenerates!"

I notice the waitress, still in distress. She walks to the quiet corner next to the bar and just stands there, frozen in place, tears ruining her make up. I rush down to help her.

"I'm so sorry. Are you hurt? Is there anything I can do to help you?"

"Oh! No, I'm alright. Thank you." After one last sob, she wipes her tears away.

After the scene I just witnessed, I can't help but ask...
