The crooked stairway becomes quite steep, but you soon reach the top of the hill. This part of the city is adjacent to the southern wall. Here, the buildings are high and very close to each other. The alleys in this quarter are so narrow that two horses could hardly pass side by side. Such is the darkness that it looks like night has already fallen. You do not meet anyone, but there are a lot of cats, mostly old and scrawny.

The alley you are following ends abruptly in a tiny plaza. The buildings around it look empty and dead. There is however a very small tavern, called only Tavern. It has no windows and its door is reinforced with steel.
