Take the bus to the border

From Create Your Own Story

"Look," you tell Alia. "I just think my chances are better on the bus."

She shrugs. "Suit yourself. I'll go off alone then." She shakes your hand. "Good luck." As you watch her disappear into the brush, you wonder if you made the right decision. About an hour later, the next bus heading south comes and you get on.

A few miles further south, soldiers manning a military checkpoint wave the bus to a stop. Two soldiers get on and start questioning everyone. Other troops keep the vehicle surrounded. When it's your turn, you give your pre-rehearsed answers as calmly as you can. The soldiers seem satisfied. They disembark and wave the bus onward. You sigh with relief.

The bus continues on its way. You must be close now. Wait, what's this? Another checkpoint? You sigh, but this time not with relief.

The soldiers who questioned you the first time looked like young conscripts. But the three soldiers coming onto the bus now look older. Meaner. And more suspicious.

When it's your turn for interrogation, you give the same answers as last time. The men look at each other, then one of them orders you to prepare to be searched.
