She tries to cheer him up

Audrey couldn't bring herself to ignore the guy-he seemed so down and depressed.
"Hey there. You're new aren't you? My name's Audrey." She offered with a smile.
The guy who at first appeared to be in a daze suddenly realized someone was talking to him.
"Uhh.." Was all he could managed. Audrey laughed at his reaction, not in a bad way, rather she was amused at how shy the guy seemed. He snapped himself out of it and managed to talk again. "I'm Eric."
"Nice to meet you. So...rough quiz session just now?" Said Audrey.
Immediately Eric's mood seemed to darken again. wow, doesn't take a lot to bruise this guy's ego Audrey thought to herself. "I wasn't prepared." He mumbled.
"That's okay, look, why don't you have lunch with me and some of my friends later?"
He shrugged. "I'm probably skipping lunch. Just realized I need to catch up on a lot of stuff. Thanks anyway." Eric slows his pace and takes out his cellphone, randomly tapping and staring at the screen as if to appear busy. It was clear that he did not want to talk anymore.
