You try to repair the DeLorean but suitable parts won't exist until 1947, with the invention of the transistor. You bury the DeLorean in the abandoned Delgado Mine on the outskirts of town and write a letter to Marty to be delivered just minutes after the DeLorean was struck by lightning. The letter will be held by Western Union for the next 70 years and given to Marty in 1955.
