Rush Bernie inside and tend to his wounds

Without thinking, you grab the unconscious Bernie by the wrists, and drag him inside. You quickly find a couch, and lay him on it. Once he's as comfortable as possible, you search the house over for a first aid kit, and after much scrounging, eventually find one. Bernie's bleeding awfully bad, and you quickly clean each of his wounds. Though embarrassed, you have to strip him of his overalls, and discover that he was wearing nothing underneath. Your eyes travel to the large sheath that hides his penis, but quickly shake your head, and focus on the task at hand.
After an hour of work, you finally stop the bleeding, and have tied the final bandage. You cover him in blankets, and breathe a heavy sigh of relief, before collapsing to the floor. Looking out the window, you notice that it's sunset, and these parts are not the safest at night. Especially with that gang of beastmen around. They're probably regrouping, and just waiting for you to leave Bernie's house. So, you decide to stay here for the time being.
You didn't have time to take in your surroundings, as you were too busy to make sure Bernie would survive the night. But now, looking around, you find his house to be quite nice. If a little quaint. There's simply not much to it. It's large, but that's about it. Few decorations, beyond the couch little furniture, a fire place, a kitchen, and an upstairs with several bedrooms and bathrooms.
But you don't see anyone else here, and must assume he lives alone. But you have to wonder, why did he risk his own life to defend a perfect stranger? He didn't have to help you at all, yet he nearly died to save you from those beastmen.
That thought makes your heart skip a beat, and you whisper in his ear, "I'm going to take care of you."
You spend the night in one of the upstairs bedrooms, and as you step downstairs the next morning, you see Bernie sitting up on the couch looking himself over. It doesn't take him long to spot you, and he seems shocked to find you still here.
"I... I suppose I have you to thank for patching me up." he says. "So thank you."
"You don't have to thank me. I should be the one thanking you. You saved me when you didn't have to."
But he laughs, which turns into a grunt of pain. "Of course I had to save you. I knew exactly what those brutes were going to do to you, and I wasn't going to let them. I couldn't."
Your heart races to hear those words from him, and you blush.
"Well, I'm just glad that you're okay." he says, "I assume your from the human village not too far from here. There's a path that leads straight there, that those beastmen don't know about. It's the safest way, and you should be there by lunch if you leave now."
You don't know why, but it hurts to hear him dismiss you, and you contemplate what he said.
