Rent a car

From Create Your Own Story

You decide to see if Tabitha will rent you a car.

You call her up on the station phone. At first, she seems reluctant, but when she hears that you’re a lawyer, she quickly agrees to rent you a car for an exhorberent price. In fact, she’ll drive it right to the station.

You agree. After all, there’s not much else you can do unless you take the bus. In a half hour, you have your new car. It’s not a particularly recent model, but it’s clean with no rust, and it runs well. You buy a map and plot your route, and you’re off!

The drive’s pretty uneventful. The rain’s a bit of a pain to drive in, but there’s not much other traffic. The roads are twisty- hugging mountainsides, and sometimes venturing down through valleys. On a nicer day, the views would be spectacular. The rain makes it far darker than it normally would be this time of day. The roads are getting worse as you drive on, too. There are more potholes, and there are areas where little riverlets cross the road.

You’re starting to wonder if it would be smart to stop at the next town. The riverlets going across the road are getting more numerous and bigger. You turn the wheel to take the next curve, and the car doesn’t respond. You hit the brakes, and you don’t slow. You’re hydroplaning, and you’re heading off the road and down a hillside.

The car rolls, and you hit your head on something. You black out.
