'Then, a couple of months ago Marty went to Arthur and apologized,' she tells you. 'Arthur shouted at him some more but after a while he calmed down and they struck up an uneasy peace.'
'So what was the problem he mentioned and why is he following you?'
'Marty is Arthur's step brother. He's much younger than Arthur is. Marty's not too badly off himself, as you probably know, but lately he's been talking about a much bigger project - something with a hefty bill attached. It looks like he's trying to go straight, though with Marty you can't really tell.'
'So he's after your husband's money,' you guess.
'Exactly. He knows that according to my husband's will, if I cheat on my husband while we're married, Marty inherits most of the money and I get left with a pittance. Whereas if my husband cheats on me as well, Marty and I split the money fifty-fifty. Of course, if neither of us cheat on one another, I get it all...'
'So he's trying to make sure your husband stays faithful to you,' you say. 'You're asking me to go against a guy like Marty Riordan to get proof of your husband's infidelity.'
The blonde smiles. 'Does that mean you'll take the job?'
