Without warning you let go, breathing heavily as you release your load. An indignant squeal comes from below the desk. Riordan stops and looks at the desk. With quick strides he comes around the desk and looks at the scene behind it.

The woman looks at him fearfully, splashes of white not only on her hand, but in a trail from the front of her black dress all the way up to those pretty blonde curls.

'You bitch!' Riordan says furiously. He pulls out his gun. You go for yours. He panics and fires. The last thing you feel is a sharp pain in your chest and the spreading wetness.

George finds you lying there alone, dead, when he comes back to the office a couple of hours later. Does he solve the case? Does he ever find out what happened? What do you care? It's the end of the road for you. Maybe you should have been a bit more careful.
