Malinovyĭ: Agree, and follow them back to the spaceship

From Create Your Own Story

"Alright Sergey, we´ll do as you wish, let´s take the American flag and return to base.

You leave the rock with the Red Banner flying proudly on its peak. Sergey carries the American flag in his chest as the four of you climb down the rock back to the vehicle . The rover is filled with nervous silence as you drive back to the spaceship. The apparent lifelessness of this red planet only enhances your anxiety about the situation. The red earth continues into the horizon, with only the occasional rock formation enchanting the view.

...

The four of you return to the spaceship Volga 3 - and as soon as the airlocks doors closes behind you Aelita enters fresh and healthy. Her friendly smile dissolves into a astonished, O-shaped gape as her jaw drops at the sight of the American flag in Sergey´s hands.

"Aelita," you tell her, "We found it on the rock where we were going to place the Red Banner. Sergey removed it, and placed our flag in it´s place."

A mixture of the words, "what? "why?" and "how?" spring out of Aelita´s mouth to form a inaccurate word of confusion.

You take your the time explaining the situation - telling her the long version instead of the short one. Kerim and Yamuna chime in during your story. When you´re done, and Aelita has understood what you have been telling her, Sergey says.

"Aelita. Go to the cockpit. Get on the communicator and report to base what´s happened here. Ask what our orders are," Sergey commands.

"Yes professor!" Aelita says and salutes the projects leader. She then runs off - towards the cockpit.

It takes a considreble while for her to get back, so the four of you get out of your spacesuits while she´s away. You can hear the young cosmonauts running back towards you before you can see her.

"Commander! T-The communicator - it is broken!" Aelita spouts with clear anxiety.

"What!?" Sergey shouts in surprise with an undertone of anger.

"There is just a buzzing sound coming from the communicator when I try to call base-command!"

"Sounds like atmospheric interference," you quickly say to diffuse any sudden emotions of panic among the crew. "I´ve experienced it a few times when landing on unvisited planets. Just never on one with such a calm weather as this."

"So what do we do!" Yamuna says - looking for answers. "Can´t we just fly back into space and contact them from there."

"We only have enough fuel for a straight journey back home," you quickly counter, "If we decide to fly off into space - then we wouldn´t have enough fuel to re-land and return home after that. Base-command might want us to continue the mission or investigate the situation, which we wouldn´t be able to do once in out space, we would be forced to perform the space-leap home."

You feel the need to chose an option on this issue.
