"You'll go willingly?" says another, astonished.
"Hey, I'm the leader, I have to set an example. And of course I expect the same bravery from you all. Have I ever asked any of you to do something I wouldn't or couldn't do myself?"
"No, but... it'd be silly to die just now, mere days before we..."
"Someone has to do the job," snaps the first impatiently. "Listen, if you all are too cowardly to volunteer, we'll just draw straws."
