Katie took a couple of steps down the road, then a couple more. It didn't take her long to realize that she wasn't going to walk very far, or very fast. With these manacles around her ankles, she could move at a slow shuffle, especially if she tried to avoid activating the vibrator. Walking the 50 miles back to her home could take her several days. She turned around and looked down the road, in the other direction, to where she could see the lights of the gas station and the bar.
She didn't want to be seen in a bar full of drunken rednecks in this condition, but that still left the gas station. Maybe she could find help there.
She started walking in that direction, or, more accurately, shuffling painfully slowly.
By Katie's best estimate, it took her an hour or so to walk the two miles to where the bar and the gas station sat alongside the road. The bar was first, set back from the edge of a large parking lot. It was an ugly brick building with a single door and no windows on the side facing the parking lot. A neon sign told her that the name of the place was Fillies.
At the edge of the parking lot, Katie hesitated. She would have to walk across the edge of the parking lot to get to the gas station. There were two dim lights, one about a third of the way down the parking lot, the other two thirds down, that she would have to pass through. She would be exposed for far too long if she did that. However, it was her only chance. If she wanted to get to the gas station, she would have to go that way, and risk it.
Or she could turn around and walk home after all.
