You decide to join. Elizabeth helps you select a running outfit and you discover that you're pretty much a natural. Even in your first practice, you finish in the top third, and you tire near the end because you haven't built up your endurance.
By the time the first race comes, you're almost as good as Elizabeth. You finish less than a minute behind her on a 4-mile course. She's the overall winner and you're the second person from your school to finish, just a few seconds ahead of Marissa.
"Great job," Elizabeth says to you. "This calls for a celebration."
You're very tired, but elated to have done so well.
