You and Seven both agreed on letting Seven lead the way. This way, you have more time to spend with Asuna, which the both of you really seem to enjoy. Diavel agrees with your decision. You and Asuna will be the ones who protect the group from behind, just in case enemies will appear and try to slay the Assault Team from a blind spot. Of course this won't happen, it's just an excuse for the two of you to get in touch more.
2 hours later
The Assault Team has departed for the Boss Room. You hope that everyone is prepared enough to defeat the boss. You're pretty sure that most of these people are a much lower level than you. Since you're level 20 and aren't able to level up properly, you assume that most people would be around level 12. While you were in thought, Asuna asked you something.
- Asuna: I know what you're thinking. Would these people be able to defeat the boss?
- You: You read my mind exactly. And yeah, I wonder if they can do that.
Asuna softly grabs your hand.
Asuna: Don't worry Razore. You're here to protect us, and I believe in you.
You have to chuckle and blush simultaneously. You really get the feeling that you are falling in love with her, a feeling far greater than you ever had with Seven.
You: If someone gains the priority here, that would be you. I'll protect you, whatever it takes, Asuna.
After you said that, Asuna pinched in your hand a little.
Asuna: Let's have a proper celebration once this is over, okay?
You nod at her. It's still sad to not see her face right now, since it's obscured by her red rag and hoodie. If there is one thing you can be certain of, is that she probably has to blush like crazy either. While holding hands, Kirito slowly walks to you two. It doesn't seem like he knows that the two of you hold hands.
Kirito: Hey Razore and... sorry I don't know what your name is.
You look at Asuna's direction. She nods, giving you permission of giving away her name.
- You: Her name is Asuna. But keep it hidden, would ya?
- Kirito: Of course. Anyway, how are the two of you holding up?
- You: It's going well between us. But, look around you Kirito. Do you have confidence in these people?
Kirito looks around him. He understands well what bothers you, and Asuna as well.
- Kirito: I know what you mean. Low-armored, poor weapons and they appear to have low confidence themselves. But appearances can be deceiving. Who knows how well they are able to fight when things are about to get real, right?
That is not entirely true. You realize that quick enough, and so does Asuna. It is true that combat in this game is more 'open' than in other VR games, but that doesn't mean that 'numbers' don't count anymore. You know why Kirito gives you that explanation though. He wants the both of you to stay confident. For that, you appreciate his help. Shortly after, Diavel shouts something you can barely hear from this big distance.
Diavel: Okay everyone, we are here!
And right he was. The group is standing in the forest, in front of the Tower entrance that will lead to the Boss Room...
