Ignore him: "Let's go. I need to find some quests to bring light to this world."

From Create Your Own Story

Denying him the basic desires of flesh is enough punishment after what he has experienced. You put back on your armor and check around to make sure the other creatures didn't follow you. You hope Hinnus or one of the others you spoke to got to them and told them about your deal. With morning on your tail, however, it's time to return to your journey.

The town of Startide, it's small, with only a few dozen people meandering around the streets as you pass them on the way to the centerpiece of the settlement, the Dancing Mare. An old man, wide in stature, waves you in and booms in a loud voice.

"Welcome! New keg for weary travelers." He gestures to a beer keg placed on top of the counter. Eyes dart to you, then away. Whispers follow. You feel like some are looking at your oddly revealing armor, but there's more to it. A sense of unease follows you into the tavern.

"Four cups," you tell the bartender, placing the gold upfront. He takes the money happily and in seconds four tall mugs of beer stand in front of you. Your slave gets one, while you empty the first two mugs without saying another word to anyone.

The old man smiles. "Long road I bet. Hope you weren't looking for work, not much else except the bounty."

You stop halfway through the third beer. "That's what I'm here for."

The old man furrows his brows and frowns at you. "Then you'd better take that boy and go." He nods his head to a figure covered in black robes. "That man over there came a few days ago to hunt an assassin. He's been dead since morning. No one will move his body 'cause they're afraid they'll be killed too."

"An assassin?"

"A wizard by training, according to the bounty," he says, handing you a pamphlet with the reward posted. "But he's wanted for killing some kind of bit-shot merchant, so they're calling it assassination. Says he can use magic to disguise himself. I guess he disguised himself here, because that fellow's dead now."
