You freeze in place, waiting for Brooke to approach. You are as quiet and still as a mouse being hunted by a hawk.

You hear her come from your left side. She's moving along the edge of a crate, perpendicular to you. If she takes two more steps...

Slowly, she takes those steps. You bring your hatchet down in a silent, killing arc.

Brooke's severed head bounces away along the floor as her body drops to the ground with a thud. You fling your hatchet away, let out a whoop of triumph and bolt out of the lighthouse, jumping around and screaming like a banshee.

Suddenly, there's a camera crew and an announcer in front of you.

"The winner of Battle Royale, Zeke Davidson!" booms the announcer. "How'd you do it?"

"Good combat tactics."

"Was it your plan to lure Brooke inside the lighthouse?"

"Definitely."

"What do you plan to do now?"

You shrug your shoulders. "Carry on with life, I guess."

"And that's how it all went down. Tune in next year at a new location for the next Battle Royale!"

The TV guys vanish and a man appears. "I'm the sponsor. Here's your $200,000. Shall we get you home?"

You do "carry on with life." It's a lonely one, but you like it. The $200,000 helps keep you financially secure, and you live out your life your way.
