You leave Shiela at your new apartment and take the viaduct to the east side of town. Driving with the ragtop off, the breeze comes int your car and sends a chill down your spine. You're on top of the world for the moment. You pass a distillery and a paper mill on your right, which both give off an acrid smell that reminds you of the gritty city. You pull into the massive parking lot across from the Convention Center, where thousands of business class men and women have flocked from around the country. You stand out in your pimp's costume, but no one seems to mind. You walk toward the mouth of the convention center, where a woman dressed in a black gala dress is handing out flyers. "Here's a map, so you don't get lost," she says, smiling.
