Go for cover without waiting

From Create Your Own Story

You feel exposed out there in the open. The nearest cover is a boulder several yards to your right. You immediately throw your athletic body into a series of cartwheels and handsprings towards the boulder, becoming a brunette blur. The soldiers see you and open fire, but you manage to evade all their bullets and land safely behind the big rock.

You lean out, fire a couple of shots with your pistol, and quickly duck back behind cover. There is a male cry and the sound of a body hitting the dirt. Meanwhile, Alia begins shooting at the soldiers from her position.

The shootout continues for what seems like a long time, but is actually less than thirty seconds. Between the two of you, you take out all of the Syrian soldiers. You check to make sure all the enemies are dead, then hurry back to the tree where Alia is hiding.

Alia is dead, several bullet holes in her head! You put your head in your hands and wish you had trusted her. Maybe things would have gone better. You cover her corpse with leaves and say a quick prayer for her.

You grab an assault rife, some ammo, and some food and water from the dead soldiers and continue making your way south to Jordan. It takes you a couple of hours to get to the border, but you make it across. From there, you walk to a Jordanian village, catch a bus to the capital, Amman, and go to the U.S. Embassy. Soon you are on a plane home.

Your superiors congratulate you on a job well done, but you will always feel regret about what happened to Alia.
